Part of the problem is that people have gotten lazy. I’d say the biggest advent of people losing touch with the actually tech is windows 7. It had everything at your fingertips. No need to look for drivers, little need for compatibility changes or added set up requirements. Couple that with nvidia automatically adjusting “best settings” for your rig on a per-game basis and you’ve got what we have now. People don’t want to learn and they’ve forgotten how we got here. Unfortunately, click and run seems to be the consumer de facto now and it isn’t going to go away.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] What are you playing on your Deck? - March 2026English
1·30 days agoI’ve been playing through Expedition 33 again now that it’s “Deck verified”. It’s a pretty rough experience out of the box, but with a mod, xess updates, and some tweaks it’s running well enough. I can at least parry properly now. My PC is having issues, so I’ve been using the deck docked as a replacement. With a monitor and KBM, Laysara has been an absolute pleasure to play. Runs very well, and it’s a great twist on a city builder IMHO.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•If you are not in a tech field, what got you into self-hosting?English
1·2 months agoOh absolutely! I tried to make a career of an interest once before and it killed my passion for it. I would be devastated if that happened with my tech love.

6·2 months agoAs a kid, dad set me up on one of his spare dos/win3.1 PCs when he was working. The passion and learning never stopped from that point. Just not something I want to make a career of.
