  • I capitalized LEGAL in my comment because if it’s legal, it’s legal (I’m not condoning it since slavery was legal once).

Culture wants profits. You are a sucker if you don’t it. You are evil if you do it. I have a problem with this spreading culture and its laws about work. I’m from a developing country (not residing there though) and all the “free help, sharing is caring etc” stuff is gone now. It’s all money.

Are we living in the same reality where we (society) teach 18 years old students how to distill people into numbers so you can apply data science to it (i.e. business school)? It’s paid by public tax, completely seen as prestigious? Culture demands returns!

  • I feel like the law is the problem if a system allows for the exploitation of the desperation of migrants and remove any of their worker protections to make this possible.

People are trying to maximize currency because this is how we measure success nowadays (the same metric which says Pablo Escober nr1, good job.) What’s should a small business owner do? Not hire the cheapest LEGAL avaible worker?

Or are we blaming the “bosses” who has enough money to lobby only? Or are we blaming the system (too abstract to act on)?

  • I feel like you are cutting society too much slack.

Yes, capitalists set the tone, but people in our immediate surroundings (neighbors, parents, schools) are the ones who enforce the rules.

20 years ago: You got an email? Well… you’ll see it when you open your personal/work computer.

Now: You got an email? Don’t you have a mobile phone? Every second you miss is an insult, especially if they saw you with your phone in your hand once while talking to them (you look at your phone AAAALLL THE TIME no???)

  • What I understood: Whenever we get a new tech, it makes our life easier (fact) but then the society expects more from us because “hey! now your life is easier, you have the time no?”.

edit: I had more to say I apparently.

    in the scope of washbasin:
Women used to do back breaking job for 2 hours while talking to their neighbors and friends by a river/well.

Now they don’t have to do back breaking job, instead they have to do comfortable but soul crushing jobs with co-workers they cannot naturally (professionalism) mingle with.
