Like the Romans used to drink from lead cups. Something like that.

5 day work week. Always seemed odd to me as a child and now that I’m seeing how broken a lot retirees in their 50s and 60s are it’s pretty clear to me that it’s a terrible idea.
TL;DR: Phone bad
24 hour news has kinda ruined the country.

Gas stove tops in houses.
I’m not in a hurry to replace my gas stoves, but I am aware of the risks of gas stoves, and am fully in support of requiring outside ventilation for any gas stove installation. I’ve also electrified the other things in my home (heat pump/electric auxiliary heat, electric water heater). But cooking on gas is pretty great, and I use a really strong vent hood when I’m cooking.
Of course, many of the same risks exist for candles, unvented electric stoves, and maybe even vented electric stoves, and things like toasters and ovens, so I wonder whether the magnitude of the risk will justify phasing out indoor electric stoves, toasters, and ovens, too.
I got rid of mine and replaced it with an induction hob with power management. This way it can run on just 2.5KW but also on 7.5KW. Depending on your electrical connection.
I’ve found that 2.5 is plenty for me. No reason to change the electrical wiring.
It’s so much more pleasant to cook on than gas. It responds faster and also the cooking fumes go into the suction hood rather than all around it.
Gas produces a huge extra volume of combustion products and that ruins the efficiency of your ventilation system. Never mind the toxicity of the combustion products.
Women delaying having child to their mid 30s or even later. It just happens that delaying it so far increases all sorts of health risks on top of fertility issues.
No, you’re getting confused by the fact that a large percentage increase in a small number is still a small number. And that the healthiest outcomes have an ideal spot at the late 20’s to begin with, and that having babies before 25 has slightly elevated risk of poor outcomes, as well.
Down syndrome risk peaks at around maternal age 44, but with about 0.6% of pregnancies. That’s still a small number.
Other concerns like preterm birth and low birth weight tend to have the healthiest outcomes at maternal age in late 20’s. For example, studies like this show that preterm birth is less likely for 30-32 year olds than the broad category of “younger than 30,” and low birth weight for gestational age is lower between 30-40 than it is for younger than 30.
Either way, though, the correlation is so weak and the overall odds are so low that it’s like playing with slightly different weighted dice. In the end, maybe some statistical significance might appear across a huge sample size, but for individuals making their own family planning decisions, the probability differentials are too small to place too much weight in those stats. Statistical significance isn’t real-world significance.
Throw in other advantages of delaying birth, like those who defer for educational/career reasons and find themselves in a different demographic category (wealthier, less likely to be divorced) as a result, and it might actually be advantageous for a 20-year-old’s future children to intentionally pursue paths that lead to later births.
Just let people do what they want with family planning: have kids, don’t have kids, have kids young, have kids old, have lots of kids, have fewer kids, adopt, IVF, surrogates, whatever. These are deeply personal decisions that people should be left alone on.

Oh no I’m very aware. My brother looks terrible…like all the time
consuming short-form content; the behavior can be compared to getting a quick hit from your vape whenever you get bored.
Driving a gas/diesel car, car centric societies are hell for health. I mean car is useful but we should not use it everyday and need it to do everything.
Pollution (from combustion and tire wear) provoke breath illness and weakens our immunity system, have you seen a spike on asthma issues?
Lack of physical exercise make us sick.
Petrol gives cancer, how does it is not written on every gas pump, like for tobacco ?
I wonder what the carbon impact of the Epstein distraction in Iran is. Like would it be more or less than if an entire US states output from vehicles and semis?

living in cities
it intensifies the urge to conform and dulls the senses. it presses on you.
it intensifies the urge to conform
I feel like that’s much more of a problem in suburban areas, not in real cities.
Hmm. maybe. I don’t really distinguish.
Seconeded raising a BS flag for this. Did you intentionally post ragebait? There is FAR more variety in cities; whether it be people, culture, food, art, entertainment, whatever…and there is often a distinct anti-conformist attitude.
Smaller towns are notoriously more conformist and less accepting of anyone not fitting the mold.
That said, people should leave cities and understand the world outside of them and visit nature that isn’t a manicured and maintained city park, and vice versa for small town people - they should get a shot of culture and variety in a city.
ok fine.
What? This is nonsense. I’ve lived in a city for 12 years, I love it and would never want to live anywhere else. I work in a factory that is closer to suburbs and more rural areas, it’s where almost all my coworkers are from. They’re way more in tune with “conforming” to the typical get married, start a family, keep up with the Joneses lifestyle. They mostly like to talk about lawn upkeep and golfing lol.
The city has a vibrant art and music scene, so many places to eat from plenty of different cultures and cuisines, the ability to walk or bike or take public transit and do whatever you want to do. To be able to go out at night to bars, clubs, underground DIY music venues, socialize, etc.
A lot of my coworkers’ daily lives center around their kids’ schedule, maybe going out to a chain restaurant once in a while, living in very car-centric and pretty boring (to me) places. The countryside has its perks, and I love being out in nature, but the city has so much more to offer. Different strokes for different folks
fair enough. consider my assertion withdrawn.
Eating way too much meat.
Say it louder for the people in the back!
Not eating seasonally fresh vegetables and fruit goes along with that.
The unhealthy obsession of cleansing and abstinence from vices. Enjoy your beer/meat/smoke/etc just don’t make it a problem.
Really depends on the vice. Eating a burger won’t kill you but crack might
Yeah, smoking from time to time is surely healthier than not smoking. /s
