Zelenskiy: āPresident Trump is facing pretty difficult midterm elections. His personal popularity is very low, diesel prices in the U.S. are very high, and the war that he started in the Middle East is not going the way he wants it,ā the Sky News reporter asked. āDo you think you are being treated as a scapegoat for his own problems?ā
Zelenskiy took a long pause, glanced at the papers on his podium, and then looked up, smiling. The whole room laughed.
āThis is my answer,ā Zelenskiy said.
Excellent.
As an American, Iām laughing at trump too.
At least when Iām not cursing him, his sycophants, and other fascist supporters that are running roughshod over my country.
Still got his comedic chops š„š„
The stand up set he does after retiring from politics is gonna be wild!
Comedic timing is innate, not trained.
he just might have started a path where it becomes normal for real leaders to openly laugh at trump
Trump has been openly laughed at to his face by rooms full of world leaders at multiple UN speeches, so weāre on our way. But Iām all for more.
Yeah theyāve laughed at him since 2018 at least, at a UN General Assembly ā but hereās the thing: I think thatās the entire point of Trump. To make the world laugh. Long-term US Allies know Trump is a kompromised asset, and they keep hoping to get through this and bury this time under the rug and get back to normalcy. But well, normalcy never comes and these leaders are starting to be pressured into acting out of self-preservation.
Unfortunately, this is a win for autocrats like Putin and Xi.
What is taking them so long?
a thing trump hasnāt : decency (but even that only goes so far)
They absolutely should be laughing at him.
I donāt even know if Iām attracted to this guy, but I swear he somehow gets infinitely hotter, every day.
Theyāre not laughing at Trump, theyāre laughing at Zelenskyās reaction.
And what was it that he reacted to?
Itās in the article. A journalist asked a long leading question which was a critisism of Trump and then asked if Zelenskiy felt like a scapegoat for everything.
The journalist basically already said everything worth saying about it, so there was no point in answering it.
I hate that kind of journalism, because itās usually done in an attempt to make the interviewee admit to something they never stated themselves, or to drag out whatever point the journalist wants to make themselves in the first place.
I believe it started in sports news where the players are usually very brief, so the journalists invented this way of describing everything that happened only to end with a redundant question like āā¦this must be very important for your team?ā or similar.
Anyway, I guess Zelenskiy was able to use it by utilizing his experience as a comedian and not answering with anything but a smile, which the audience caught as an acknowledgment of everything they were thinking themselves. Like, itās all implied and understood, no more words are necessary.
