Objection. It’s kinda fun to dress up even if you’re just hanging out at home. Then when you see yourself in the mirror you can say: “Lookin GREAT!” and give yourself finger-guns and do a spin move and a pose.
(even if you don’t really look that great bc you’re old and dorky. it’s just that you’re dressed up a bit, you know?)
Being old and dorky isn’t mutually exclusive to looking great. I bet you look great, even if you don’t fully see it yourself, someone else will.
I know I’m looking great! (finger guns) (spin move) (POSE)
I love this, well done.
I really hope more people stop fooling themselves with these five minutes of happiness style purchases.
It’s far more beneficial to find a hobby.
Please everyone, there are actually really damn fun things to do and explore out there that aren’t algorithmically fed to you.
Paint, hike, take up photography(buy used!), learn something you lack, read a book.
Buying garbage isn’t good for you, the planet, or your mental health when it’s all said and done especially if you struggle financially.
I hear you and you’re completely correct, but neither my ADHD nor my depression cares about these things and I assume it’s the same for most people (either one or both).
Brain simply says no for… well, ever since. Buying something gives short bursts of dopamine, like eating something tasty.
If your life sucks or you’re currently under emotional pressure you take every source of happiness you can get. Though I’m heavily biased I’d wager most unnecessary purchases can be linked to this.
Not really hedobism, more like consumerism.
Je suis Charlie! lol
Buying shit won’t bring you happiness, but pirating it definitely will!
I understand this. And it’s not wrong.
But, you know… Buying things for a shot of dopamine works and in this world shouldn’t be so frowned upon. I know it doesn’t make me happy for more than 5 minutes. But man, let me enjoy those five minutes.
It is cute tho
Look, I hate capitalism and fast fashion as much as the next woman, but socially we’re treated as if our value is within our looks, of which we all know are mostly outfits, hairdos, and makeup catered to the male gaze. So I mean, good for her, and who cares if it didn’t materially change her life for the better or change her habits. It’s quite possibly a whole ass outfit no less, top and skirt, not one whole piece. If it made her feel good and she likes it enough to be lounging around in it a week later, I don’t see the issue. I don’t know, let women have fun. (and that includes you, Stushona! let yourself have fun!)
I’m curious what makes you feel that way?
I mean, you’re right, looks do matter socially. Caring about appearance is not shallow.
But if I think about the women I admire most and that I love, looks are never the valuable part. It’s their kindness, their strength, their humour, their competence, their character - that’s what’s really captivating!
And if they feel good in a cute dress, or in a teddy bear pajama onesie, I’m here for either!
we all know are mostly outfits, hairdos, and makeup catered to the male gaze.
I wouldn’t say mostly, it’s sadly mostly unchangeable body and facial characteristics. If a man finds a women attractive or unattractive odds are that will be regardless of clothes, hair, makeup etc. odds are a man will treat and value the women in panel 1 and panel 4 equally.
Most of the effort and signalling that women put into there clothes will go right over most hetero men’s heads.
Heterosexual men don’t care what women wear. Other women care what women wear
Seriously.
To test this…women, go up to your man, ask him to cover his eyes, and then ask him what you’re wearing right now. No heterosexual man will be able to tell you accurately what you have on, even though he just looked at you 10 seconds ago.
Women care what women wear.
I’m a man. I definitely notice if my woman is dressed up nice or not. I have a shit memory, so I might fail your test, but I notice what she wears, especially if it’s different from the usual.
Being able to describe what someone is wearing and passing judgment on someone based on what they are wearing are two separate things.
No heterosexual man will be able to tell you accurately what you have on, even though he just looked at you 10 seconds ago.
Yeesh, either you’re a terrible partner or you’ve had a string of terrible partners and are speaking from personal experience… but I mean I guess all that research that shows that men very much do care what women wear (especially women they aren’t dating, famous women even moreso) must mean nothing…
It’s both. “Societal” pressure is not gendered. It comes from everywhere, women and men.
If by “heterosexual men don’t care” you mean “I dont care,” then sure. Sounds like you’re just telling on yourself for not being interested in your partners tastes and trying to pass it off as a common trait of “all straight men.”
Nah. I can do the above challenge, as can lots of people, straight/gay/etc. If you and your partner don’t care thats fine, but dont try to paint billions of men with your same disinterest to make yourself feel better about it.
I mean… You could’ve gone for a much less extreme attempt at exemplifying it with the classic, “take your man clothes shopping” thing…
Agreed. My wife went upstairs a half hour ago and I remember what she’s wearing. But early on she stopped taking me clothes shopping because I just said “wow, you look great!” to everything she tries on, which is understandably unhelpful.
I wasn’t trying to do it. I legitimately think she looks great in everything. I’ve tried to be more aware and conscious of what she’s trying to do with her outfits in the past 16 years, though, so I can comment on it thoughtfully; but it requires a specific type of effort that I am sure comes easier and harder to some men.
I stay excited for my purchases until i get it and then i enjoy it for the rest of time. But i don’t buy lots and i research lots.
If my package takes 1 week to arrive I’ve already lost interested before even opening it
