For Kelsey Gellner, a Seattle-based pediatric nurse, a statewide proposal to bar trans girls from sports participation feels like a violation of her duty as a medical professional. The ballot initiative includes a requirement she calls āinvasive and extremeā: all students who wish to compete on girlsā teams would have to undergo genital exams.
āI tell my kids and patients that my No 1 job is to keep them safe,ā said Gellner, who is also a board member of the Washington State Nurses Association. āI can say with confidence that girls do not want to have an unnecessary exam that creates an unsafe barrier.ā

The only reason any sports physical is ever needed, is a shit ton of kids donāt normally see a doctor. Give them all access to medical care, and every kid would already be getting an annual exam, and thereās be no need for any child to get one just for sports.

It wasnāt a secret, we all talked about how fucking weird it was. Definitely a normal part of the exam. The entire team pretry much all went at the same time to the same clinic every year the day the forms were passed out.
