Sad day.
I was not ready for this news.
Damn I was really hoping for a “sike”… This sucks.
This one sucks. One of my friends had him crash her wedding. She had an outdoor wedding and he was filming Wolverine nearby. He was out on a jog and stopped by, congratulated her and her husband and got some pics with him. Total gentleman and very kind. Pouring out some earl gray for my homie tonight.
Well fuck, that’s a sad one to lose. His performance as Picard made me feel so much
Every obit will mention his roles as Picard and Professor X. Let’s celebrate his other awesome roles, like Uriel Septim VII in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, or just being himself as he read Shakespearean sonnets each night to the world during COVID lockdown. Or my personal favorite, his scene in Extras that still makes me laugh.
Thank you for that! Never seen that before.
Also check the outtakes of him trying to get through the scene with Gervais not keeping it together https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JlLbZVxRH60
When I was in college I had a Shakespeare course that required me to get through about one play per week and I was falling behind on the reading. However I learned that the campus AV room had tapes of Royal Shakespeare Company productions which you could check out. There’s not always a Hollywood movie of every Shakespeare play and not all the movies stick to the text. But the RSC ones did 100% and they were well made. They weren’t captures from live performances with an audience, more like soap-opera level of production values.
But guess who was in all of them.
Patrick Stewart got me through college.
Everyone seems to be forgetting he was Director Avery Bullock
DJ Buttercup and you put respect on that name.
“Some Of Use Spent The Late 80s & Early 90s Getting Laid, Smith.”
And that time he told us all that he’s uncircumcised and didn’t know.
King Leodegrance in Excalibur
They spent the entire voice acting budget on the guy that died immediately in Oblivion. Money well spent.
A fun fact I enjoy about his role as Uriel Septim is that apparently he was given a large booklet (90 pages apparently) of notes on his character’s background, motivations, the world’s wider lore, as well as notes that linked into roles Stewart had played before. The Oblivion team were worried that they’d overload him with too much information, but Stewart was, in fact, delighted by all the details, and remarked that he wished all of his roles would give him so much to work with.
Sejanus in I, Claudius.
If you sail the seas, track down Blunt Talk, he’s amazing in it.
Blunt Talk is deeply underrated.
Such an underrated show. I loved it!
As king Ricard in Robin Hood: men in thighs. ‘It’s good to be the king’
As Ebinezer Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol”
Or as Pigtrick the severed pig’s head in Bait.
My favorite role of his was Ahab in the 1998 Moby Dick.
Whoa, now moby dick references in star trek first contact feels like an easter egg
He was a terrific Gurney Halleck in Lynch’s Dune.
And honestly, from everything I’ve heard about the man, he was just an all-around lovely person. Caring and supportive of anyone who had the good fortune to know him.
This was Patrick Stewart’s best role. Sterling from the 1995 film Jeffrey.
He was actually a Shakespearean actor, but most of the World knows him for his roles on Films and TV Series.
A friend of mine saw him as Oberron in Midsummer Night’s Dream
my condolences u/The_Picard_Maneuver
I sometimes think of Patrick Stewart the same way as Huey Lewis and the News. Patrick was a stellar actor, and he prefered theater. But Hollywood paid the bills. Huey was energentic, charismatic and put on a great show. He and the News had a pasion for soul music. But pop music paid the bills.
Both got to follow their passion while making it big in something related. And good for them.
I’m so tired of people dying who don’t deserve it. Yeah, 86 is not young but still.
This year has been a continuous ass beating

This one hurts bad…
I’m an atheist. Sometimes I come across the question of where I get my morality. I often refer to TNG in my mind. What would Picard do? He would ask his crew for information, assess the situation, and give orders.
So much of my right and wrong came from his portrayal of that character. Today is a black day.
The nuanced stoicism he brought to the leadership and mentor roles like Jean Luc Picard and the maniacal aloofness he brought to roles like Director Avery Bullock… I am happy to have experienced his characters.
Make it so.
Im not a celebrity worshipper. I don’t read tabloids but as a latchkey Xenial. He was my TV dad. Every Sunday night I would go to bed and watch MASH and then Star Trek. From age of 9 to 15. It sparked my interest in scifi
I got a lot of of my morals through that show and ironically Roseanne, despite the wildebeast she turned into later in life.
His loss hurt. They usually don’t, even for people who’s shows, movies and music I like. But this one stung far more than I thought it would.
Avengers doomsday is going to be even more heartbreaking knowing it’s his last performance and watching his world get destroyed.
I only watched this about 50 times last night. https://youtu.be/kH1XlwHQv9o?is=Q2jaVTpEvsYnraTc
A great man.
Still don’t like earl grey though.
Splash of milk even? Cream if you’re extra?
It won’t hide the perfumed bergamot smell of earl grey.
Damn, what a terrible loss. I literally just got finished watching Green Room and he’s great in it. Sad day…
RIP Patrick. He had one hell of impact as an actor.
Not just an actor. He was one of the greatest human beings.
I will always remember him from Guardian organized sketch “what has European Convention on Human Rights ever done for us”.
