Hahahahahah⦠Oh, thatās rich!
Downvote me if you must, but just go see Minority Leader Jeffriesās comments downplaying the agenda most of us think should be priority⦠Like finally holding government officials to account for pedophilia, corruption, and treason. Apparently thatās too ārevengeyā for their billionaire handlers.
Yep. Jeffriesās hasnāt even gotten the official promotion yet and he is already putting in the work to make sure the Democrats are the minority party again in 2028.
Democrats can release the Epstein files right now.
Would it be ālegalā? Probably not.
Anyway, leak it now, stop hiding behind the law you weenies.
I agree with Jeffries that impeachment should not be a priority. Vance would pardon, thereās no point to it. Just investigate until Democrat President takes helm in two years.
Trump will likely be dead by then, but his enablers can be brought to justice.
To be fair, this is talking about the number of state governments that have flipped, not Federal.
I did miss that nuance, but not sure it impacts the ability of the parties to do something this radical.
The allusion is to the state-level pact several states have made to always assign their electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote in their state. With Texas and other flipping, that makes enough states to be over 270 votes, meaning if all those new blue state governments join the compact, the EC essentially doesnāt matter anymore.
And it doesnāt need to include Texas
On Tuesday, Democrats took control of state legislatures and governorships in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada, all states that havenāt agreed to the compact. If all five vote to join, then the total number of electoral votes apportioned based on the national popular vote jumps to 283.
I am enlightened! Appreciate the response.
Any thoughts on how binding such a pact is?
Bad news there Iām afraid, some people think it might even be unconstitutional, but because itās never triggered itās never been tested. Itās probably a safe bet that if it ever did trigger the Republicans would set their own children on fire summoning the best lawyers hell can offer.
There is nothing in the Constitution that says how states must choose their electors based on the outcome of the vote, whether itās by districts or statewide, and it says nothing about how or whether electors are allocated to the runners-up. In fact, it just says itās up to the states how they conduct their elections. The only requirement (not in the original text of the Constitution for Senators) is that they hold elections.
That might not prevent the Extreme Supremes from making shit up, as they did with presidential immunity, but apart from that kind of fuckery, it should be fine.
That kind of fuckery is exactly the problem weāre facing though, which is why this is tenuous.

Obviously should happen. But iāll be surprised if it does.
Yeah America has a habit of generating hope ⦠and then crushingly disappointing everyone
Iāll believe it when I see it ⦠otherwise Iām not holding my breath
It might genuinely kill me if they do it. The sheer surge of endorphins would be comparable to a full plate of fentanyl.
My problem with it would be potential dehydration from continual orgasmic euphoria.
This is unrelated, but I love the creativity in your name. It shows that you have a passion for the arts!
I also appreciate the beauty of OPās username.
America has a habit of generating hope ⦠and then crushingly disappointing everyone
Youāre confusing neoliberals as an only other option to magaā¦
Anyone with a congressional Dem representative needs to contact their office and tell them they need to support a progressive for leadership.
We canāt afford the bullshit ālooking intoā that happened under Biden. We need a Speaker and Senate leader willing to put progressive legislation up for votes.
Schumer/Jefferies wonāt do that
The problem with America is we vote and then everyone goes back to whatever they were doing.
We need to stay mobilized and protest even the democrats until we are getting what we want.
Winning a congress that might listen is the first step, but politics never ends.
You either participate in politics or politics will participate you and you wonāt like what it does to you.
Weāve also had a habit of razor thin election margins and Republicans in Texas.
I have a feeling this will go the way of the filibuster, hope Iām wrong
This canāt, its a state innitiatve. thereās no filibuster, only governors who have state legislative trifectas to vote for it.
Its possible itll get thrown out in the supreme court thoā¦
Thereās a line that Interstate compacts are constitutional if āconsentedā to by Congress. So itād be like state govs form compact and send a letter to Congress, who acknowledges receipt. Iām sure itād get challenged but I think the constitution is pretty clear that states select electors who can do whatever they want.
Of course if a state gov changes hands down the line, they can withdraw, but that doesnāt screw anyone over, states will just go back to our current apportionment scheme
We shouldnāt have to listen to an obviously treasonous supreme Court
Here we are again constrained by the very laws everyone broke for ten fucking years. According to SCOTUS, our next president can just drone strike the heritage foundation, SpaceX, Tesla, musk, and all the people we all know we should get rid of, and, because of our majority, canāt be impeached. This means that they can pardon themselves and anyone who helped and we should be good to go. THE REPUBLICANS WANTED THAT AND ARGUED FOR IT IN COURT.
But we will concede to the rule of law and watch Kushner and other democrats influence our politics forever with their island lairs that they bought with OUR MONEY
The way this has been done by states already is passing amendments that require them to vote yes when it gets enough votes. This means itās only a few new states that need to pass a law for this to actually happen. Previous states canāt back out.
āYes well the wheels of the law turn slowlyā
Funny how slowly they move when the dems have control and how quickly they move when the republicans do.
the Republicans were doing the neat trick called ignoring it.
And democrats get a neat little smug and a destroyed world for following it.
do it. stop the idiotic gerrymandering bullshit
Getting rid of the electoral college does not change anything about gerrymandering. The EC is for electing president. Gerrymandering is only possible for electing district representatives. But yeah, one step at a time.
It drives people in areas where they feel their vote doesnāt matter to have incentive to vote. Itās not necessarily gerrymandering, but itās a voter suppression tool for sure and needs to go.
I even went out of the way to add āone step at a timeā to make it clear I agree it is a good change, just not related to gerrymandering and you still feel the need to state the obvious? š©
thats why we need to be rid of it. treat us all like a single district with no racial/ethnic restrictions prohibiting any legal voters from excercising their right to vote

Theyāre going to fuck up like they always do and weāll be back to a Republican majority in no time
They think this election represents support for the Dems, but most people (including reliable Dem voters) still have an unfavorable view of the party. This election was about rejecting Trump, and he wonāt be dragging down the Republicans in 2028.
We need to hit the primaries HARD.
The Dem VOTERS did great, AGAIN! We did it in 2020, and kicked MAGA out, and the feckless Biden Admin just let them right back up. Now weāre doing it again in 2026, and this time weāve made it clear that we expect them to hold MAGA accountable, unlike last time. Nothing less than full commitment to this mission is acceptable.
I thought that would be the only real battle, but now it seems we have to fight off Israelās attempts to infiltrate our government, as well.
Itās going to be a busy two years.
Same thoughts exactly. I donāt want to see another red tsunami
That was an anomaly.
spoiler alert: They wont
the uniparty system wont allow the duopoly to end.
Will they? No.
We are actually already ridiculously close to a popular vote being the deciding factor for president:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact
Thatās what the article is about.
I think theyāre saying itās not going to happen. The article includes some examples is states that failed to pass that despite Democratic control.
A very helpful comment which encourages people to write their congress persons.
LOL. LMAO even. This was me 6 months ago too when people talked about flipping the senate though so WTF do I know?
Get active. Call your reps. Tell them what you want, call them every time legislation comes up. If they wont vote the way you want you vote in the next primary for someone else. You keep demanding better representatives until, and i cant make this any more clear, until you die because they will never be good enough.
Fighting Republican lunatics is step one.
Step two is fighting all the centrist MAGA Lite Democrats.
So 95% of the party? Yeah, none of the progressive shit is gonna happen. But donāt worry, the progressives āshift the conversation.ā Maybe some day the oligarchs will allow their Dems to enact the will of the people.
Some day? The fight is now, comrade.
Totally agree, I was being sarcastic. I should know by know that no matter how obvious I think the sarcasm is, I should still use the /s.
Will they actually do it though? Iām guessing no
Just like the Republicans do much of anything with their majority.
Most of our gov is ineffectual because it is about maintaining status quo for elites. Everyone else be damned.
Rs did a lot this time around, thats why they lost.
The entire point of bourgeois democracy is to give workers the illusion of freedom so that the capitalists can continue extracting wealth.
I can hear it now ā⦠But⦠But⦠The Republicans wonāt let usšā
The dems arent into fixing scams. They wont end it.
If they fix the problem, what are they supposed to run on in the next election? Have the voters considered that? /s
But they wonāt because their leadership wants it. Chuck and Hakeem are corporate dems who like keeping the will of the people in chains.
People hate them more than you think. I think now we just need to doxx the fuck out of the Israeli donors.
But they canāt remove them. People hate lots of things that arenāt going anywhere.
Dont fucking dare tease me with this shit.
No one wants to acknowledge this, but if we all contacted our (non-Republican) representatives every day, this would happen. Public pressure works.
Iāll bring you back down then. It wonāt end the EC, itās a voluntary compact between mostly already blue states agreeing to give their votes to the person that wins the popular vote.
The EC will still exist, and this could, for example, get a Republican elected just as easily. Trump won the popular vote in 2024.
I think itās probably a good idea overall but it has a lot of problems inherent to its process and enforcement.
The point is that this compact takes effect when the states that have joined represent a controlling number of representatives, i.e. the remaining states that doesnāt participate canāt flip the results.
It takes effect by activating state level legislation binding the state to designate their EC delegates according to the popular vote results.
And yes somebody like Trump could win. But the whole problem is Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 and the below-50% win in 2024 was because media lied about who was responsible for what. If he hadnāt won in 2016 he wouldāve fizzled out, but instead he was allowed to use his mafia tactics to pressure owners of media companies into supporting him, and without that he would never have had a chance in any other election afterwards
Was just listening to David Dayun on this.
The only slim chance this and other positive changes might happen is if the US population thanks a page from France and protest non stop. Demand the progressive changes until it happens. Show the corporate Democrats that they are done.
Protests arenāt enough, we need to unionize, organize tenant unions, create revolutionary cadres and do socialism. Itās the only way to stop the oligarchs from maintaining their ownership of us.
