The progressive group Indivisible called for Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday to replace Sen. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) as Democratic leader after the party secured control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesdayās midterm elections.
āYesterday, voters made it very clear that they want a new generation of Democratic fighters,ā the group wrote in a social media post. āWe need a leader in the Senate who is capable of leading that fight. Itās time for Senate Democrats to choose new leadership.ā
The group cited the Democratic leaderās faltering approval ratings in its Wednesday statement. An NBC News poll conducted at the end of October found only 13 percent of registered voters viewed Schumerās leadership positively.
āThe American people did not elect Democrats by historic margins just to bend the knee and go back to business as usual,ā Indivisible said in its statement. āSenate Democrats need to listen to the voters and turn the page on status quo politics.ā
The paid opposition running the Democrats will not falter in their supporting of their Republican donorsā causes.
Both Schumer and Jeffries need to go. Jeffries went on TV not long ago and said he doesnāt support dismantling ICE or passing Medicare for All.
For a quick, easy way to directly write to your congresspeople to tell them to oppose Schumer & Jeffries, you can sign these Resistbot petitions:
Response I got from Neal. This is why I voted against you in the primary!

Ugh, thatās terrible. If you feel up to it, maybe you can share this response with other progressive communities in your district?
Spreading the word that he is putting himself on the record as supporting Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker of the House can spark organized outrage and encourage folks to increase the pressure.
While definitely worth signing to cover all our bases, I just want to clarify that each Resistbot petition is sent directly to your specific elected representative/senators as a letter/email from you, their constituent :)
And as someone else posted an example of, gets an automated form letter and sent straight to a trashcan. Do you really think anyone is reading those emails?
-
Staffers are required to keep record of what issues are being brought to their congresspersonās office by what number of constituents on a daily basis. The larger the number of constituents bringing the same issue to them, the harder it is to ignore.
-
Even receiving a form letter on your congresspersonās position is useful. Forcing them to declare their position before democratic congressional leadership has formally been chosen gives you confirmation as to how to proceed. If they are expressing support for an unethical congressperson like Jeffries or Schumer, you can share this letter with other constituents, who can then organize to make your congresspersonās life absolute hell until they choose to represent the will of their constituents accurately.
-
Done and done. First time seeing this site, very easy to use.
Awesome! Yeah, whenever I have some downtime, I browse various Resistbot petitions and sign a couple.
And secretly met with Kushner to ādiscuss affordabilityā
Why was his primary against a democratic socialist cancelled?
Because he would have lost and thatās not what the establishment wants.
His opponent dropped out after a DSA vote.
Wtf
He was a bad candidate, and the DSA is being smart about putting forward quality candidates.
A weak DSA Dem wonāt achieve anything but making the DSA wing of party look bad. Theyāll give the old guard something to point at as an example of why DSA is bad for the party and make things even harder.
Thatās not a poem
Your butthole isnāt a poem
Sorry, do you have some context here? I hadnāt heard about that
Same reason the dems refused to let Bernie lead. The dems donāt want to be the left, they want to be rich.
I believe Chi Osse dropped out after the DSA pulled its support of them.
The rumor I heard was basically that Ossa was a poor candidate and the DSA are trying to pick the most solid people to support.
When was this?
This year Jeffries ran unopposed in the primary because his opponent dropped out.
Republican plants
The secret meeting with kushner proved that
Well, no, theyāre still far better than any Republican, and in fact Jeffriesā stance on ICE is being misrepresented here.
Iām fine with that, but I do want to say that is NOT an accurate portrayal of Jeffriesā stance on ICE and Immigration in the slightest. Jeffries was a vocal proponent for depriving the DHS of funding early this year, has held press conferences condemning ICE: video link here
Then why doesnāt he vote that way? Words donāt matter as much as actions. When has he not voted in the way that he claims?
Approving cabinet picks left and rightā¦absolutely caving on the shutdown he had the upper hand onā¦constantly undermining progressives out of committee positions and campaign fundsā¦Hakeem Jeffries is the minority speaker of the House of Representatives, NOT THE SENATE which appoints cabinet members.
Youāre probably thinking of Senator Fetterman, who voted against 11 or half of Trump appointees which is opposing 8 more than the most opposed by any Republican: Mitch McConnell with 3, meaning even Fetterman is better than any Republican.
No I was mixing up this conversation and one about Fuck Schumer.
Yeah thatās fair, Fuck Schumer.

I came into this discussion to set the record straight about the misrepresentation of Jeffries character and stances, the person Iām replying to apologized for their mistaking this conversation for a different one about Schumer.
To add clarity Jeffries probably does want to reform the ICE to the way it was under Biden or Obama and leave it at that, I never claimed otherwise, but I have some great news for you if your plan is to abolish the ICE then the DNC will likely have the votes needed with or without Jeffries.

The DHS went without funding earlier this year until the GOP passed budget reconciliation.
EVERYBODY is calling for Schmuck to be replaced.
He has one job and he will now do it

Oh damn thatās right itās Schumer that said his job was to Israel not Jeffries. Guess I canāt tell one shitheel from the other. Though I suppose a guillotine wouldnāt be able to either.
Hakeem Jeffries is also one of the top recipients of AIPAC. I think his famous quote was "Israel today, Israel tomorrow, Israel forever. "
Oh, I thought his job was to write strongly worded letters to the gop
Please. He doesnāt write those. Heās got a handful of interns that will gladly draft a milquetoast worded letter for him to approve of.
Neither Schumer nor Jeffries should be in leadership positions. They are quite literally part of the problem.
Jefferies literally just met with Kushner before the election. Now, I donāt fault anyone for trying to deal with the White House, someone has to if they want to bring costs down, but doing so before knowing the strength of his own position is either foolish or telling.
Schumer is a effectively a moderate Republican. He has publicly and repeatedly (for nearly 2 decades) said he uses an imaginary couple named Joe and Eileen Bailey, and what they would think if they were real, to decide how to vote in the Senate.
The world was first introduced to the Baileys in Schumerās 2007 book, Positively American: Winning Back the Middle-Class Majority One Family at a Time. According to Oliver, Schumer mentions the swing-voting, middle-class couple an astonishing 265 times in just 264 pages.
āI have conversations with them⦠one of my staffers once said I had imaginary friends to the press, got me in some trouble,ā Schumer says in a clip Oliver played.
Schumer describes the couple as Reagan-era Republicans ā socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Heās offered up intricate details about their fictional lives: their love of Kung Pao chicken, Joeās habit of singing the national anthem at Islanders games, and Eileenās fatherās chilling run-in with prostate cancer.
Note, the Kung Pao chicken, Islanders games, and prostate cancer are all imaginary! Rather than talking with actual voters, Schumer just makes up imaginary voters pretends to talk to them! Why is this delusional man even in a position of leadership? He literally talks to imaginary āReagan Republicansā to decide how to vote. He does not even belong in Congress, let alone in a leadership role.
Edit: For anyone who would like to laugh and or cry about this, here is a youtube link to Jon Oliverās segment about Schumer and his imaginary friends.
The guy is running a local LLM in his septuagenerian head. Itās trained on models that are 40 years old and that represent people that would be in their 80s now. smh
Yeah that motherfucker should be removed from office period! Wonāt even talk to his voters, just uses this bullshit to make excuses for being a shit Democrat not working for the people but the fucking super rich.
Contact your representatives and tell them to keep Jeffries and Schumer out of party leadership roles. Weāre done with meaningless decorum and excuses for doing nothing.

Hey, thanks for this prompt. It directly led to me calling my representatives about this!
Good work! Democracy doesnāt begin and end at the ballot polls so itās good to see others doing more to move the needle.
The reality: Democrats lost to Trump in
20122016 and 2024.What Schumer and Jeffries explicitly say they want: To go back to the way things were in 2024 (roll back all of Trumpās policies).
Likely result of doing so: Democrats continue to lose to Republicans.
Obvious conclusion: Democrats need to push an actual policy that gives people am economic reason to vote for them and makes the donor class uncomfortable. āA Return to Normalcyā is a losing strategy.
Trumpās incompetence has granted us a reprieve, but the next fascist we elect may be younger, smarter, more capable. We can not fuck this up.
Trump has always suffered from incompetence. Trump v1, we saw this in spades.
During Biden, GOP/alt-right used the four years to consolidate power, find further vulnerabilities, and capitalize on them under Trump v2. GOP fucking wrote what they were going to do and then they fucking did it.
The DNC suffers from wanting to appeal to centralists, the largest bloc of voters that can actually swing an election. They know that progressives and anyone left of the DNC will vote dem because of the fucking two party system.
If progressives want change, NOW is the time to capitalize! Now is the time to support progressive candidates, set up election committees so when the primaries come up in 1.5 years, they will be front and center.
The reason the DNC doesnāt pander to progressives is that we donāt give them a reason to. We start too late. We hem and haw through the primaries, bitching and moaning that we donāt have Jon Stewart. The number of progressives that are breathing a sigh of relief yesterday was palpable. Yes, celebrate the win, but we didnāt āwinā. We have an opposition that we can influence more than the other candidate.
We need to fucking take these new politicians to task.
And, at the same time, find even more progressive candidates and encourage them to run. I want more candidates Chris Gallant. We need more Zohran Mamdanis. We need more Allison Montgomerys.
We need more Gen Zs.
Iām fucking tired of the DNC going to progressive candidates and saying they need to stand down because they wonāt win. I want progressives to throw the DNC the middle finger and say, āYou go left or weāre leaving YOU.ā I want the DNC to be the third party.
So yes, take the victory lap everyone. But start looking for progressives NOW to run in two years.
Donāt wait two months before primaries.
The problem with progressive candidates is that they stand largely alone, with constant ankle-biting from other Democrats. No fucking wonder Progressive positions arenāt popular in practice (despite being popular in theory), because the entire fucking DNC is always talking down progessive policies and labelling it radical. They donāt fight for shit and the public never hears strong, consistent arguments for progressive policies.
We have enough trouble fighting uphill in this media environement, we canāt afford to have the party splintered on messaging key issues.
Centrist dems think their job is just to take the most popular positions that already exist, at the same time as theyāre forbidden from upsetting the donor class. That leaves us with culture war issues that favor Republicans and divide us instead of economic issues that favor Democrats (ie the dreaded populism) that can unite us.
Not even just ankle biting. The DNC FUNDED MULTIPLE MAGA CANDIDATES TO BEAT PROGRESSIVES.
They did this many times and, because of what MAGA is, it should be considered treason. They actively helped anti-american and treasonous activity to āincrease electabilityā
They are just as traitorous as any MAGA and are not on our side. Fuck the DNC
They literally wanted trump in 16 because he was unelectable⦠fucking DNC
Neoliberals are conservatives. Always have been.
Do you mean 2016, or are you making a different point that I donāt understand?
Corrected.
He made a typo. Deal with it
It was delt with in the correct way.
lol!
Itās ādealtā
Thanks for the laugh.
I made a typo. Deal with it.
I did.
I laughed at it.
Cheap laugh, but Iāll take it.
TBF Trumpās incompetence was a selling point to his supporters in the Russian and Chinese intelligence agencies.
āHear, Hear!ā Ask AOC to become Majority Speaker or give her a higher leadership role.
Best they can do is strongly suggest she run for a different office next time.
Then attempt to sabotage her campaign. (Again)
Jefferies needs to be stopped too.
IMO every aipac politician should be boxed up and shipped to Israel.
The us government is the equivalent of a public computer at a prison. Itās infected and it needs to be wiped.
If they mess up coming out of this midterm win, I will be astounded if they are able to take the presidency. Dems will never have another chance like this to really demonstrate a new vision. I hope they donāt fumble it.
Honestly, itās still up to us. Itās us, as constituents, that won the midterms.
We need to demonstrate the new vision. Our congressmen are there to represent what we want, theyāre not there to come up with stuff we may want to see happen.
That means you have to write them and tell them exactly what you want to see. Itās not just about winning a vote, make sure they hear what you have to say.
Though I understand the underlying sentiment, and I recognize that politics isnāt a once every two years thing, I disagree that it should somehow be on us on.
I would love an engaged electorate, but realistically people campaigned on a specific platform. We pay them to read the bills and ideally vote in accordance with what they said their values are. Itās completely unrealistic to push that back on the constituents. Often even congresspeople donāt have time to read an entire bill before they vote on it. Do I understand all the intricacies of every omnibus bill? No. I give them my hard earned money so they have the time and staff to. If I have to be on the phone all the time reminding them that they promised no more wars just so they remember to stop Trump from bombing Iran then they have failed to do their job.
Does that mean we shouldnāt call and express our opinions? No, of course not. But the entire point of having representatives in a representative democracy is so that your average person doesnāt have to sit down and understand the ins and outs of every policy. Itās really not their job to, and especially in America itās unrealistic to act like people will. Party leadership should be the ones capable of looking around, seeing the direction the wind is blowing, and coming up with a unified vision that addresses the issues of the people that voted for the party.
Also, however much I support contacting your congressperson, and have done so often myself, Iāve never once had it have any affect whatsoever. I still do it, but thatās not a reliable way to get policies you want to happen. The only real reliable way is to vote in someone who was going to champion that anyway.
I have to disagree.
Congressmen are there to represent you. Most congressmen themselves say that they encourage constituents to reach out and express their concerns and ideas. That is the point of the structure. The average Joe doesnāt need to understand the details of the bill, youāre right, thatās what the representatives are for.
However, theyāre there to represent the constituents, the bills that get put on the table get put there based on what the representatives hear from their constituents, and then itās their job to sort through it for us. If you have a minority opinion on something or want something done different that no one else is talking about, itās going to be difficult for you to realize your concerns in any bill thatās passed. But if you get more people to express their concerns to the representatives, the louder your concerns will get with them. And if they donāt share your concerns, thatās where constituents need to spread the word themselves. Thatās how this all works.
You didnāt win the election.
The people who voted for Trump three times and switched are the ones who won it.
We have to give them what they want; lower prices and affordability.
Focus on them, because weāve got to get them locked in for the next twenty years.
Wow what an astoundingly bad take.
Japan only has a few years where the LDP was not in power. The opposition faceplanted so hard, they never got any meaningful power back. The pulled out the footguns for the last lower house election (though to be fair, they called it earlier than expected) and basically destroyed the center-left.
Iām hoping that a similar thing doesnāt happen in the US, but with Schumer and Jeffries there, I am not hopeful.
That people would still look at it and call it messing up or fumbling is why theyāve been able to run the same scam for decades.
Schumer belongs in an old folks home along with Trump. They can play cards and talk about how much they support Israeli genocide there and smile as they watch people on YouTube kick a baby. They donāt belong in politics anymore.
If that old folks home is a prison, yes
It is really for the best in a change of leadership unless people really want to down the line repeat the cycle that got us here.
No Chuck!
We should send a message by telling him to retire completely. If he refuses, impeach him. If that fails, escalate. If scaring doesnāt work, then physical confrontation is completely reasonable.
Neoliberals are conservatives. The only things conservatives respect are fear and violence. We need to use these tools to remove all of them from the party or they will send us right back into fascism.
Iām not sure what grounds for impeachment there are.
I donāt like him either but canāt impeach for being pro Israel and anti democracy.
Yeah I think impeachment gets dicey around what could qualify or not. Their actions donāt actually have to be criminal. What falls under harmful to the public trust becomes more of an opinion than a set rule. Like, does taking money for your campaigns from donors tied to supportimg our country starting wars across an ocean with people that in no way benefits the public? Someone could probably make that argument, that saying we should continue sending missiles to a country that has been continuously proven to use them to kill children/innocents/and needed infrastructure for humanity to survive⦠I would say is harmful to the public trust⦠But Iām sure others wouldnāt.
Which option is more likely to get a Dem elected President in 2028?
A - A long, drawn out impeachment fight that leaves JD as President?
B- Hitting the ground fast and getting Medicare For All passed and signed by Trump?
I want a deal making arm-twister who can get things done. I want LBJ in charge of the Senate.
I think the issue with this plan is that most elected Dems donāt support Medicare For All. DSA needs to primary and replace them first. Itās doable but will take time. Something more realistic is needed for the next two years.
This is another thing a lot of people here are ignoring.
Not every Dem is a Progressive. Obama had a super majority and it took him two years to pass the ACA, a bill he called āa starter house.ā
Yes, and a lot of the widely celebrated wins in red states are still very conservative Dems. They didnāt run on progressive ideas and will not support any of it.
Thank you!
The thing I want people to remember is that weāve got the same number of Progressives today that we had in 2024. What won the election was people who voted for Trump three times finally getting sick of him.
Those folks want lower gas prices, not impeachment.
Let him sit in the White House for two years and then let the state courts have at him.
āthose folks want lower gas pricesā
Who gives a fuck what pedophile supporting Nazis want? Fuck them and anyone in power in their party needs to be in our prison or the Hague.
Who are you? Why on earth would you sit here and try to treat these sociopathic and sadistic monsters who cheered for little girls to be blown up, and immigrants to be put in concetration camps and trafficked all over the world as āfolks who want lower gas pricesā?
We have to remove every conservative from the democratic party and that includes neoliberals. Capitalism breaks brains I guess and as long as their 401k is good, they will just goose-step all over the world and allow whatever to go on I guess
We have way more progressives now as evidenced by DSA wins
I understand where youāre coming from, by under current conditions, with the American people being reactionary, itās impossible for the left to hold power on its own. That means the only ways of achieving power are to work with shitty people or to convince formerly shitty people to stop being shitty.
What is the path to victory, if we isolate ourselves from the average person?
We can (and must) begin to build socialism, not with abstract human material, or with human material specially prepared by us, but with the human material bequeathed to us by capitalism. True, that is no easy matter, but no other approach to this task is serious enough to warrant discussion.
I largely agree with you on this, but there are limits to āshitty peopleā. Religious extremists and Nazis have an entire philosophy and desire to destroy and/or control everyone else. They feel joy when people they donāt like are in pain. They cannot be dealt with any other way than banishment or destruction (and banishment just means we will deal with them later)
With that being said, maybe some of the neoliberals will change, but they are already working hard to appease the elements of the extreme right rather than the left as we speak
Nazis vote.
Votes win elections.
There are people who voted for Obama twice, and then voted for Trump three times.
You want to win elections, listen to them. You donāt have to pander to them, but you have to deal with reality.
Nah. I wonāt deal with pedophilic Nazi supporters ever.
āThere are people who voted for Obama twice, and then voted for Trump three times.ā
I donāt care about whatever stupid people these are. To have voted for Obama twice and to switch to Trump, shows you donāt have values, donāt have any political or economic knowledge, and generally canāt form a cohesive thought because there wasnāt a single thing spoken from that orange fuckās mouth that sounded good to single normal person.
It shows that they donāt even have an ideology or political stance, they are JUST cultists looking for a leader. Those kind of people donāt need to be part of our party, they offer nothing
The thing I want people to remember is that weāve got the same number of Progressives today that we had in 2024.
Except that, you know, all the DSA members who were literally just elected for the first time?
Quick Google search tells me that DSA is poised to win 105 seats, functionally quadrupling their presence in Congress.
So yeah dude, totally the exact same number of progressives as 2024 š
And?
Obama won two elections in a row, and then Trump came in.
If you think everyone who voted for a DSA candidate last night is now a Progressive youāre wrong.
Obama was like the most center-right, milquetoast Democrat we ever elected
If you think everyone who voted for a DSA candidate last night is now a Progressive youāre wrong.
DSA is an inherently progressing platform, so unless theyāre outright lying about their beliefs, then yes they are all progressives.
Thatās how words work.
Well Vance would presumably give Iran whatever it wants to open the strait. He could also roll back Trumpās suicidal treasury policies and tariffs.
So they do want impeachment. If all they want is just cheap gas that would do it.
Talk about a false choice.
Even if Trump wonāt sign it, make him veto it, then the next president can sign it.
Trump has zero loyalty to the GOP.
Heāll do what he sees as best for himself.
If we have to let him blame Pete H for the Iran invasion, letās do it. If we call Medicare For All the āDonald Trump is A Genius Billā letās do that.
C - revolution
Itās always funny to me how the people who have never been in a fight are always ready to have other folks get shot.
You want to start a revolt? Go out and attack some cops yourself. Iām not going to stop you.
Why would Trump sign M4A into law? Reverse Fetterman stroke? Bribery?
You canāt really make deals with Republicans because theyāll just stonewall you, like they did Obama. Youād have to have leverage and I donāt know what kind of leverage youāre picturing.
I do agree that they donāt have the votes for impeachment so itās pretty worthless. And forcing Trump to veto M4A could be an effective strategy if they go on to run on it in 2028. But itās not getting through in the next two years with a divided government and no organized mass movement.
How about threatening to take away his billions, requiring him to register a sex offender, and throwing him in a US prison for multiple life sentences?
With what supermajority?
Name it āTrump caresā with some fine print that auto renames it after being signed.
