A deal with Apple would represent further validation of the chipmaker’s turnaround bid, although it’s unlikely that Apple would switch back to Intel processors in its devices.

It honestly sounds like their “partnership” is driven by political pressure. What would a collaboration (not investment) between Intel and Apple entail if Apple is not going to use Intel products?

I could see it as a long term investment by Apple, Intel had fabs, and Apple might need to use them later, depending on how what they need produced.

The fabs would need to be competitive first. Although I get the feeling that they will continue going beyond 14A even if it’s not that competitive.

I can only think that maybe Intel has some fab tech that could be useful? Not much, but it’s all I can think of…

I mean… $150M definitely helped, but it wasn’t just generosity. Keeping one viable competitor alive certainly helped their “we’re not a monopoly” argument.
