I installed this app on my previous phone a long time ago probably from some privacy Reddit thread and never touched it again. I have it on my new phone after transferring data over and it looks like it still works exactly the same way.

Any thoughts from people more informed about privacy than I am? Is it a security risk? I am giving up a ton of access to it.

It tracks your devices, and it’s proprietary software. Furthermore, from what I understand about the PC software, it runs at the kernel level (ring 0). I don’t believe it can do that with an Android or iPhone app, though.

Either way, if being tracked on a whim is within your threat model, you should assume this is spying on you. Most modern phones already have some kind of “Find My Device” tracking, so this seems like you’re just adding an extra pair of eyes.

I used to use it years ago but I haven’t used it in quite a while. Kind of surprised it’s still around.

I do recall it needing access to quite a bit of permissions for tracking purposes. Outside of the camera and GPS though I don’t remember it all off the top of my head.

If you aren’t going to use it I would say it’s best to uninstall it.

As far as it being a risk; I don’t think it is? Hoping someone else will chime in on it

Edit: some of this was answered while I was typing this out. I’m not a fan of kernel level anything personally. And yeah, most devices already have a way to track it down if needed. Prey would be redundant.
