There are grooves - I can feel them when I glide a fingernail across it. I’ve had that thing in the thigh pocket of my work pants for about a decade.

I’d say grooves is a valid term.

But how are you sure that there aren’t any? I feel it’s difficult to tell just by looking at the picture…
