I have to get around to customizing it, thunder is mostly solid, a bit laggy sometimes, arctic is prob a better move on ios, I just wanted to get used to it, since piefed is forking thunder for their ios app and that will probably be my main eventually. Arctic is definitely more optimized for ios and the fastest I’ve used.
I reccomend namecrane, easy to setup, 15 sites unlimited emails 10$ a year on their launchpromos, I had issues with their firewall blocking my ip because I added hella sites at once but supports fast

I have friendica, lemmy, gotosocial, and streams (hubzilla 2.0?, havent tried it yet) on one server and its not using much 8core 16gb from littlecreek look en up on lowendtalk signup and comment with invoice to double the ram, they have two deals one is 7$ a month, one is 9$ make sure you click the right listing since the 7$ one is the same exact specs, they also have 3.50 for 4core 8gb which is more than enough too
I think making your own instance is a big enough barrier to entry to avoid trolls, fediseer exists but has issues if you change your domain but use the same ip.
I agree honestly, swapping to invite only being federated together, with onboarding could work, could be abused like anything but itd be a way to avoid trolls in the invite only servers and figure out whos bringing them in
What you’re saying is a bunch of popular servers become closed off, you cant post, comment, or vote unless you are invited, ppl in them dont see your posts unless they allow federation with open registration communities.
Itd basically be another option where servers could choose to interact with open registration ones or not automatically.
Mlem testflight supports it, but its a bit buggy I couldn’t make posts without crashing, havent checked the most recent update tho

I gave up on the technical expertise part, thats why I use yunohost lol, and I defintiely went overkill with the 8core16gb for two apps that only im using, yeah its an issue you dont grab old posts, it shouldnt take up too much memory for text at least considering wikipedia can be downloaded for 58gb uncompressed

You can literally just share phtn.app and say its how you use the threadiverse/lemmy, it doesnt need to be hosted on a site with the same lemmy instance you can login to any account through these frontends
I did this for a couples posts that popped up on redditalrs that werent lemmy, they were definitelty alread netuered and ready for ads, worse than reddit
I just really love the default ui of thunder, it nailed what I want for lemmy usage, makes the ocassional lage/wrrors less of an issue. Also like consistent ui across devices, but I find it too annoying to type on my tablet to browse lemmy there.
