Lemmy desperately needs to get rid of toxicity of this kind.
It has become a more hostile place, and this negatively affects the experience for everyone, including the OGs.
And yes, if you want to have more lively conversations, you need more people. If you need more people, you should stop calling them morons and help them figure it out in baby steps. Don’t make it harder than it already is.
To access it on desktop, just open the browser and type your server’s URL (in your case, lemmy.world). It’s not some special protocol, it’s a regular site.
I guess we have inevitably reached the “apps for everything” point, after which people become uncomfortable just typing something into the browser.
Cross-platform desktop Lemmy app, anyone?
A far-left Lemmy instance, one of the so-called “Tankie Triad” (along with lemmy.ml and lemmygrad.ml). Compared to other instances of the Triad, focuses more on inclusivity and minority rights.
As with all instances of the Triad, Hexbear is commonly hated on other instances due to conflicts stemming from the difference of political perspectives with the majority of people on other instances.
It federates very well with Masto, it’s just that the latter focuses on text and Pixelfed on pictures.
In fact, most of my Pixelfed feed comes from Mastodon.
NewPipe has been there for a long while, with the ability to watch Peertube videos.
However, with its strict no account policy, you aren’t able to leave comments, for example. So, nice to have!
Side thought: what are they gonna do with content that violates the site’s rules?
For example, knowing Tumblr audience and current rules, many will rush for uncensored NSFW content, and Fedi’s got plenty of that.
Fair!
Unlike Threads, I kind of even don’t mind
Tumblr is generally cute, and while we should be on the watch still, I think it could enrich the Fediverse community.
Admin options would be cool - although this would exacerbate the issue of picking an I stance and then figuring out your pick was wrong for your purpose. Fediverse generally tries to avoid that.
Without compression, every instance would have to deal with issues of free space, which is very sensitive when we talk about small servers ran on good will of the people.
Yes
Second that. I consider myself an experienced user by general standards, but I still have certain issues wrapping my head around Docker/Podman.
We cannot expect everyday users to use containers with ease.
Fair! We just shouldn’t expect Jerboa to be a Lemmy flagship for laymen. Some would like it, though.
