ok that makes things better. Here its like a 1-3% surcharge at some shops while larger shops eat the cost.
I dont think that would help because chrome would offer good by default and apple would offer chrome by default for the “best experience” and they dont need the money. Then alternative browsers with an already low market share would get paid less to offer other search engines. Its risky to ship a non google search by default.
I think some of this data is stuff im fine to share with some caveats. I think we can have a world of convenience and a world where people have a decent level of privacy. Of course there will always be tradeoffs but we can find a sane middle ground because at the moment its 0 privacy.
GPS data can be shared while im using a map to navigate and They must not “know who I am”. I am ok to be a datapoint but I dont like when they build a personal profile with this information.
Payments are fine if its my bank and they never sell that info.
Communication must be encrypted and I do not want them knowing who I am talking to.
Photo and video thats private should be encrypted but anything posted public is public. I would use cloud storage but it needs to be encrypted.
Web browsing I dont mind if the site tracks what I do on the site but it must only be stuff I do on site and not build a profile using my off site data.
All I need is a phone that can connect to mobile networks and run a web browser with decent battery life and form factor. Maybe i could run a linux phone.
Who said that? There is a lot of comments saying “I dont use those features maybe i should switch” but I dont see a single comment telling others to switch.
do they come with a surcharge on every payment?
The only time I ever need to use a google bang is when im searching for something specifically local like a restaurant. DDG uses apple maps and apple maps is complete garbage.
When I cant find something on DDG and I use the !g 99% of the time I cant find it on google either.
You have to draw your own lines. For me I dont focus on all the bad choices, I pick something im interested in and then look at the options and try pick the choice I like the most. One thing at a time and before you know it you’ve made major choices in several areas of daily life.
I need this i’ve been struggling to replace spotify.
How disappointing but expected. I’m not even sure what would break googles search engine dominance outside of search engines becoming obsolete. I use DDG and I find it to be better than google but still so many people stand by google search with strong loyalty.
Yes but we like mastodon because they’re open and if they fuck up we can move away at any time. Bluesky is completely closed except the protocol and the network is fully centralized. They’re just waiting until they have enough marketshare to enshitify.
No almost all of that is misconception. Shareholders can sue normal companies and “PBC” for not maximizing shareholder value. PBC are still legally required to cater to shareholders interests. Legal scholars say that PBCs do not provide any protection against shareholders suing and data shows it does not stop profit maximizing behavior. Its pure marketing.
All this effort to block clankers? Absolutely worth it fuck clankers.
Everytime I see bluesky PBC I have to resist the urge to rant. There is no such thing as a public benefit corporation. Its just marketing BS.
*as long as its a font you like you dont care. Plenty of easy to read fonts that you would absolutely hate if they were enabled by default. Luckily the people who pick default fonts like fonts enough to choose good ones.

Work with hardware and software vendors to break linux compatibility.
With the simcard slot can you use mobile data? If so thats amazing and I will be looking for that feature on my next device.
