You could use automated testing tools to do the work for you. You define your requirements as individual tests and every input is tested separately giving you a report which tests failed and which succeeded.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Uptime Kuma Release 2.0.0 - Stable ReleaseEnglish
7·27 days agoSetting aside the funny (if you’re not affected) coincidence of AWS being down I have to say this is an exemplary way on how upgrades should be announced, executed and documented. There is a migration guide, but even if you don’t read it - in most cases the software will take care of it itself. Well done!
Is your server running on UTC? Depending on your location midnight UTC could also be 8 AM and it could be a user with a very regular morning schedule.
Only you can find out which machine is sending this request…

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•can we now "safely" auto upgrade immich?English
5·1 month agoImmich obviously does not follow semantic versioning when 2.0 is to be considered the first stable version.

15·2 months agoalternativeto.net is also my go-to resource because they have a good filtering system and are not solely focused on open source.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is there a self hosted version of Google Earth?English
30·3 months agoThere is Cesium. But the thing you actually need is the actual maps. There are free maps (many of them based on OpenStreetMap), but the fidelity you know from Google Earth is usually not free. Also if you also want to self-host the actual maps you need a tile server for that and lots of disk space because these tiles take up a lot of it…

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What is a service you host you never knew you needed?English
1·10 months agoThe easiest thing: We use a motion sensor to automatically turn on the light for the stairs. You wouldn’t need Home Assistant for that, but with a little more configuration you can adjust the light levels and colour temperature based on the time of day (not as disturbing at night). We have two rooms which have problems with humidity in one a fan is automatically turned on (basic) in the other a dehumidifier is triggered based on the outside and inside temperature because there are large windows which are producing a lot of condensation otherwise. Now the really specific stuff: My daughter has Diabetes and we need to manage her blood glucose levels. There are alarms but ideally you would act before they are triggered. So we hooked her blood glucose levels to a light in our bedroom which turns on if her levels are getting out of bounds at night. That way she isn’t woken by the alarm, but by one of us and can go back to sleep much quicker.

1·10 months agoThat’s easily Home Assistant. It got me into the whole home automation stuff and I have gradually included more and more parts into it - including some health related stuff. It really makes my family’s life easier and helps us organizing it.
Everyone has experienced an AWS / Google Cloud / Azure outage or has had a service - you are happy to use switching to (more expensive) subscription service. That’s two things that are not going to happen to self-hosters (except the outage thing, but you can actually do something about it when it happens).
