An evolutionary attribute, I think, since drinking from standing water increases the likelihood of associated health complications

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Zoo hires French speaking trainer because its new polar bear doesn't understand English.
11·2 months agoOne commenter on social media asked if Yelle knew English.
“Yes,” a zoo representative posted.
Learned French then English, that’s a damn smart bear

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is one of the best engineering school anywhere in the world. You can take free courses at MIT online.
1·4 months agoI live in Boston. The Greater Boston region genuinely cares more about education than any of other place I’ve lived in the US. Keep in mind that studying here, at any of the Universities, for higher education is ridiculously expensive - partly because so many people compete to be here.
Things like these are why we need to fund higher education. A knowledgeable populace brings innovation, a healthy economy, and diversity which creates a feedback loop for all of it

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Bosses and workers still can’t agree on whether the commute is part of the work day, and it’s creating a $578 billion productivity problem
1·3 years agoIn many Labor Economic Models, the distinction in Time is measured as Time spent working vs Time spent not working, in which the commute is factored. Many companies deal with people’s reluctance to commute by offering better pay or better benefits (if they’re seeking specific skillsets that are more difficult to find close by), but sometimes you find a gem like your company.
I know it would be difficult to implement for many companies, but I wish more companies did something like that when they could. The company I work for doesn’t pay for commutes from home, but will pay for them if you are temporarily relocated to a different office by calculating the distance between the two offices and average fuel price

People argued the same about calculators. This person literally described their situation as one where they’re utilizing it due to having no other option, and as a means to begin increasing their skills. LLMs are mostly garbage, but to say they have 0 benefits is being deliberately obtuse. The other commenter literally took the initiative and adapted the technology to their situation, that’s literally the opposite of what you’re complaining about.
I say this as someone that hasn’t touched an LLM in 3 years.
