TRUMP SHOULD BE ARRESTED

Measurements are a social construct

My proposed compromise: we should have a system with 0 at freezing point but the same sized degree increments as Fahrenheit, so boiling point would be 180

What was the water temperature?

0 Kelvin

The metric system is French

Canada uses both systems. The temperature outside is reported in Celsius but my oven temperatures are in Fahrenheit

Even Kelvin is an arbitrary system. 0 being absolute 0 has a scientific basis but the size of the degree increments is arbitrary and chosen based on the Celsius system

Yes, that’s what’s causing all the issues in the Untied States. The gun violence. The fascism. The failure to prevent an unrepentant criminal from seizing power. The for-profit prisons incentivizing locking up the innocent. The thugs being sent into the streets to terrorize citizens. It’s all because of how temperature is measured.

I was going to mention Nosedive too

Reminds me of the Black Mirror episode where someone has the power to change reality, whatever she says happened in the past retroactively comes true. Probably inspired by the Mandela effect.
If I had this power, the first thing I’d say is Donald Trump has never been president

As I said, it varies depending on the police agency. The RNC in Newfoundland requires a university education. I noted in my comment that I was referring to all of North America

Police education requirements. In North America, there are like hundreds of different police forces with vastly different requirements. Some will hire highschool dropouts while others require a university education.

It’s way past time to be reasonable about politics

No, it isn’t okay to say mean things because someone rejected you. A person has every right to reject someone. You can’t force someone to date you. The person can’t help their feelings, they can’t force themself to want to date you. Being rejected does not call for being mean to someone.

Movies that have anti-consumerism messages are inherently hypocritical. Unless it’s somehow released in such a way that there’s no intent of making money and there’s no merchandising.
It’s fun to see ironic cases of merchandising that goes against the film’s message. The Hunger Games had make-up lines based on the Capitol look. I haven’t looked it up but I promise you Toy Story 5 has or will have a mobile game based on it even though the point of the film seems to be to encourage playing with physical toys instead of apps.

No method of birth control is 100% effective (except abstinence) so it’s a good idea to use multiple methods simultaneously
I think it’s okay to like Harry Potter but one should approach it with the awareness that Rowling’s prejudices had an impact on the work and try not to let it influence your views. For example, recognize that the pro-slavery stuff with the house elves is kind of fucked up.
I really want to watch the upcoming TV series. I was going to until a few days ago. I think it looks like a really good adaptation of the books. I hope I get to see it eventually. But I’ve recently decided I don’t want to watch it in a way that supports Rowling given the recent laws in the Untied States targeting transgender people. I don’t want to contribute to the hate and misinformation against transgender people. There’s also the fact that the studio will soon be controlled by Paramount and I don’t want to support them either.
Still, I don’t expect the show itself to be transphobic and I think it is therefore fine to watch the show if it doesn’t support Rowling. I might watch if it gets uploaded to YouTube or Rowling dies (not wishing her dead, just saying then I would be able to watch the series guiltlessly)
