PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Microsoft caves after Teams AI backlash, will let you turn off Copilot, Facilitator and Recap mid-meetingEnglish
10·1 month agoTo bring back users they better rewrite the whole OS from scratch.
Windows just patches old versions and ships them as new, making the whole system more unstable each time and AI slop doesn’t make it better.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Void users, what do you especially like about your distro?
10·1 month agoFair point, Alpine offers even more customizability by having more init systems, using openrc and busybox instead of GNU core utils. It has a way better built in installer and is also pretty lightweight.
However it was involved in some controversies where the dev team showed themselves biased and it’s also quite inconvenient to use if you have been using GNU tools for a while.
Both distros are neat but I like void cuz its green and alpine is cyan

Linux@lemmy.ml•Void users, what do you especially like about your distro?
34·1 month agoNon-systemD, Lightweight, Convenient to use, Standalone (not based on any distro), No controversies involved, I like the logo, Isn’t restrictive compared to certain distros, Ideal for power users and servers

Can’t wait for the glitchless run. It’s kinda boring seeing him use the Israel exploit for half his presidency
People dislike the lack of effort and environmental impact that results in an amalgamation of stolen work. While artificial intelligence can indeed be put to greater use and benefit humanity in fields like agriculture, medicine, industrial development, etc., morons use it to generate slop that in no way benefits the goal audience and is written off as “the future”. Some examples of said practices are Nvidia, OpenAI, Meta and Microsoft. Not to mention how much money is wasted for nothing.

Games@lemmy.world•Time to bring back physical media on PC?English
5·1 month agoWhile this would be great, we’d have to stockpile on said media which is less convenient. Discs were great but they’d always get lost somewhere and/or used a lot of space when stacked.
I’d personally prefer to download the files on a hard drive which could hold thousands of games while saving space. Only problem being that these games would need to be transferred to an SSD for better read/writing speeds. On the other hand discs would only need to be plugged into a disc slot which may or may not seem very convenient considering how most laptops/PCs don’t have those, meaning we’d need to buy these extra.
Either way having pretty discs with collectibles like in the good old days seems like a good idea if you’re into that sort of things.

4·1 month agoEmulation is getting better each day, why not get a laptop that’s pretty much a (portable) console on steroids? Or just flash SteamOS or something on your PlayStation if you’re into that
Also a lot easier to borrow games from websites like Vimm’s Lair/Internet Archive
