Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Besides gas and housing, what else makes you do a double take at how much it costs now?
2·10 days agoGlad you were covered to get back on your feet.
That all sounds quite complex to navigate. Crazy with all the tech and resources that we have available now and these are the systems that were designed.

3·10 days agoHaving such a reactionary approach is counterproductive, I agree. I know people for who psychiatric care is not optional, they’re doing fine on the right meds though that requires monthly follow ups. That would cost a fortune! Also not covering physical rehabilitation is confusing as it’s pretty much needed after surgery, how are people supposed to regain as much function as possible?
Our health insurance here costs $600 per person per month but then it covers specialists with a $40 copay, includes vision and dental. Basically if you can afford private insurance it’s manageable but that’s a horrible way to design the system since you often loose your insurance if you change jobs.
I miss the French system, it’s not perfect but it was more affordable and teeth were not considered optional. The main inconvenience that I remember were the wait times so you just have to be organized for your routine care and it’s no problem.

10·11 days agoSorry to hear that. I didn’t realize the Australian healthcare system was as bad as the one in the USA. $500 to see a specialist is not ok, especially not for psychiatry when the medical support is literally life changing.
She has the best smile! Please give her a a good scratch behind the ears for me.

1·14 days agoThese people were not influencers, just people with strong held beliefs. They weren’t filming anything or pushing social media. Recording posters is actually against that conference’s policy
Oh my goodness please convey scritches.
Oh my goodness 😱 they’re adorable!

2·15 days agoThey probably do. Crazy bastards.
Like others have said talk to a gyno. You should not be in pain. They will be able to help you sort out what’s going so you can enjoy intimacy.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I get the damn cat to understand I can feed myself?
14·16 days agoUnfortunately there are no magic solutions. Corpses will keep happening if the cat is allowed outside. Be glad you’re not my childhood friend, her cat would deposit corpses on their pillows 😱.

4·16 days agoI wish I had a good answer. Unfortunately it’s on social media because people believe what they want to a lot of times. I was at a geology conference this one time presenting a poster and was approached by a seemingly nice gentleman. After hearing my spiel he starts lecturing me about how none of this is possible because the Earth is only 6 000 years old. A little bit later I actually got to meet a flat earther in person! The fact that those two people not only hold those beliefs but felt the need to go spread the word at a geology conference is quite confusing to me. When you compound the effects of social media algorithms a lot of people don’t stand a chance.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do LLMs "have" the "abillity" to be told they are wrong or incorrect and be able to contest that?
1·18 days agoThanks for the offer but I’m good for now. I find that web searches get me where I need to go. I find scientific papers easily that way.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Can we finally admit that Lemmy is just Reddit trying to tell you its not Reddit?English
29·19 days agoThat is pretty funny that after your thorough and extensive comparison the result is blocking. Thanks for taking the time to do that though. I’m new and recently transitioned from Reddit. It definitely feels very different here but I didn’t know how to describe it. The end really is much less hostility in general. I feel like there are more constructive conversations happening despite occasional breakdowns.

15·19 days agoThe pandering is really unnerving when you’re not used to it. I’ve used chatGPT only once and it was to edit my resume since I hate doing that. It helped with consistency and wanted active verbs in there which was fine. It was the constant compliments at the top of every response that was so weird. Like I’m asking for feedback, not to hear how wonderful of a writing job I already did. I felt like I was being handled like an oversensitive child.
It is crazy how much of a price difference there is in between ordering and shopping/cooking. We’re really lucky to have a weekly farmers market with an incredible fish stand. They sell better quality and cheaper fish than Whole Foods so that compounds our savings too.

Can we add dog barking? I used to have a dog that would get so triggered by it. Really unnecessary. I’ve been joking with my husband that it would be nice if shows had an audio track like they do for different languages but just change the sound mixing and remove the common irritants.
