They’re way left of the Tories and Reform. But yes, that’s what I was getting at with the “right” people. If Americans fight for better Deomcratic candidates between now and 2029 then they have a chance. They’ll win big when Trump goes anyway so the question is: Who benefits?

Whoever comes next will be blamed for the state of the economy and the government.
There’s just one sliver of hope: When Trump keels over the Republicans will tear each other qpart like cats in a bag. That’s your opportunity. You have to get the right people in, you (the “left of MAGA”, basically normies) will win an easy landslide just that one time…
I’m British and this is what happened here - the right briefly in disaray allowed our centre-left party to win big. Just once… now Labour are blamed for everything and are getting destroyed in the polls.

Technology@lemmy.world•OpenAI Codex bombards SSDs with needless write operations, costing millionsEnglish
7·1 month agoJust in case any Linux users see this: (and for my own convenience as I’ve just learned how to do it!)
sudo mount -t tmpfs -o size=10G tmpfs /wherever/blah/
It only uses as much RAM as the files actually consume, the size option is just an upper limit. Set Steam to record to the same directory. Add NoSwap to the -o (options) if you want to prevent any disk use.
Works great.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there any open source ATM machine ?
1·2 months agoIt’s not the regulations, it’s the banks. They’re super paranoid, everything has to be proprietary. And at the same time their backends are all ancient and seriously decrepit. Which has to be kept secret and airgapped from the public.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People born in the 1900s, what was life like back then?
7·2 months agoI was born in the late 70s so I can comment on the 80s onwards.
It was ok. It’s better now though. Some stuff got worse. A lot got better. We know more, have better toys, live longer, cheaper travel and so on.
The major thing that’s worse is the internet blasting every negative thing into your brain 24/7
It’s up to employers who they employ. It’s not for you or I to decide what job or what person are suitable.
But if your skilled enployees are switching to burger flipping because they can make the same money then you aren’t paying the new market rate.
A rising tide lifts all boats.
