  • Considering this is a very small lay off, was handled extremely well and provided proper offers for staff to choose to leave instead of just surprising people. I wouldn’t call this a cash grab by literally any real means. Companies do lay offs, its normal. The only stated claim here is that AI is fucking the market and they are downsizing.

Which it is. Thats litterally just facts.

Theres nothing to indicate here least i can see, that says they are force rolling out AI to cash in on a quick buck.

  • His point is this is the frediverse and blind hatred of ai with zero nuance and no room for context or discussion is easy updoots. So gotta farm em while they are fresh.

To be fair this does suck, but from what im seeing here theres nothing to indicate that it isn’t anything more then a bog standard lay off. Ai is teh reason this time but its no different then any other lay off. They suck, but its not like they are axing 50% of their work force on purpose to replace them with ai.

They also seem to be giving out proper compenstation and even offered people the choice first before doing forced lay offs. Which is about as professional as you can expect from a company doing any form of lay offs.

  • Honestly the jump to psyop just comes across someone too out of touch with reality to understand the fuck people are.

Like mother fucker, what do you think is more likely. Lazy, depressed, and self-defeating people being tired and dooming? Or a coordinated psyop across the entire internet that lines up perfectly with the exact same shit people have been saying, doing and dooming about since the 1900s.

Like get out of your house and talk to some normal people, you will realize this isn’t a psyop. People are ACTUALLY just that tired or stupid.

That said there is obviously bots going around trying to influence things. But they are more just pushing people in directions they already lay.

  • Flexibility and diversification is annoying to manage but tends to be the best situation over all.

Proton does things right generally speaking, it’s just ran by an absolute idiot.

So you also have to weigh are your morals and expectations here reasonable to your own acceptance level. Vs your own requirements of the service at hand.

There are plenty of reasons to need a VPN that the extra security and privacy guarantee are beyond worthless. And in those cases staying in proton doesn’t make since if your morals go against the company.

While if you absolutely need that privacy and guarantee switching is a very real risk.

Plenty of people like having privacy but for some it’s actively a life or death situation. So you have to make that call. Where do you sit on that spectrum, and are your morals important enough to take the risk if your on the extreme end?

For most people who aren’t, switching is just a formality and technical consideration.
