blackbrook@mander.xyzto Privacy@lemmy.ml•How to get TSA PreCheck while protecting privacy?2·2 days agoWhy is that funny? If you want something to work and there are bad consequences to it not working, fishing for reasons it might not work is exactly what you need to do.
For those who need the weight of a blanket, they should make a loose chainmail blanket for hot days.
blackbrook@mander.xyzto Privacy@lemmy.ml•How to get TSA PreCheck while protecting privacy?3·3 days agoHave you ever applied a layer of paint, finish, or glue to something? Getting a smooth, uniform layer of a coating is not a no-brainer. I would expect uneveness, brush marks, etc.
blackbrook@mander.xyzto Privacy@lemmy.ml•How to get TSA PreCheck while protecting privacy?12·4 days agoIt seems like getting caught having tried to obscure your fingerprints would be bad. How does one fill them in without it looking like you have a mess of glue on your fingers? Is there some technique for making it smooth so that you don’t produce prints that look obviously messed with?
They definitely want your photo. They will photograph / scan your face everytime you fly.
blackbrook@mander.xyzto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something that you mess up frequently enough that you should know better, but you continue to do it anyway?6·7 days agoMy keys, like my wallet, always stay in my pants pocket. This only fails on rare occasions that I forget to transfer my pocket contents when changing pants.
BTW, I’m someone who has a serious problem losing things because i set them down without thinking about it. Any task requiring numerous tools takes me twice as long as a normal person because I spend half my time hunting for the tool I just used a minute ago.
I think the only reason I rarely lose my wallet or keys is because I have internalized that I DON’T ever set them down.

blackbrook@mander.xyzto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's something you believe strongly but have little knowledge about20·1 month agoI would submit that our culture is severely deluded in thinking that conscious reasoning is behind most of our actions and reactions to things. If you like a thing, and have reasons why, those are generally rationalizations to explain why, after the fact, not actually how you got there.
What is a PIP?
blackbrook@mander.xyzto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•this 82 year old woman dressing like she was 40 or younger makes me think about how ridiculous I'll look like when and if I reach that age. Am I misguided?5·1 month agoPutting in the effort to dress in the way one has come to think is appropriate for appearing in public is a form of self-care. For some people, from certain generations or cultures or who have adopted the habit to their identity, that may be more formal or elaborate than for others.
That a person of an advanced age, possibly suffering some mental decline still does this is a great thing, and very good for their well-being.
blackbrook@mander.xyzto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What does everyone here do when you can’t sleep and are wide awake besides being on phone? [serious]3·1 month agoI play some music (thru earbuds unless my wife happens to be away). My go to is the Goldberg Variations. I think the reason it works, even though it can be quite busy and fast in some parts is that there is enough complexity to occupy the mind, but enough sameness to lull, and I know it really well.
Sometimes I’ll take 1mg of melatonin, and a cup of warm milk with honey.
If we did we could save the money we spend on toothbrushes.
I guess the stawman of ‘most FOSS advocates’ could be anything, but attributing ‘free as in beer’ to FOSS, taking it from their slogan ‘free as in freedom NOT free as in beer’ is beyond stupid.
