The EFF provides pretty sound advice, see the 2nd link in my initial comment.

One way of helping would be to tell people how to mitigate it. Telling them it’s impossible does the exact opposite.

Gotta love a call for contribution that makes you want to paint your face blue and attack Adobe with a sword lmao
You may Unbreak My Heart but you’ll never Unprobe My Ass

Booting a live USB and reinstalling GRUB as follows has saved my butt in the past. Obviously replace the /dev/sdXY paths with your own. Further adjustments might be needed depending on your system.
# mount root partition:
sudo mount /dev/sdXY2 /mnt
# mount boot partition (if there is any)
sudo mount /dev/sdXY3 /mnt/boot
# mount efi partition (if there is any)
sudo mount /dev/sdXY1 /mnt/boot/efi
# mount other partitions:
for dir in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys /sys/firmware/efi/efivars /run; do sudo mount --bind $dir /mnt$dir; done
# chroot into mounted system:
sudo chroot /mnt /bin/bash -i
# reinstall grub:
grub-install
# rebuild grub.cfg:
update-grub
# rebuild initramfs (not sure if necessary):
update-initramfs -u
# sync, exit chroot, reboot:
sync
exit
sudo reboot

I should have used a better example than uBlock. Think of an addon that lets you change your browser’s locale. Those hardly ever need to be updated, yet I can’t find a way to keep them offline.

An elegant way of saying no

Where does the [12] reference point to?

Presumably they didn’t like how you used the meme format. Surprise Pikachu is usually about someone who’s surprised by something particularly predictable and obvious.

Was about to say how much I love it when a random shitpost leads to an insightful comment by an actual expert in a very niche topic. Then read your last sentence. Well played.
Shoutout to all our ancestors who went “I wonder if this Lovecraftian abomination of a plant is delicious and/or deadly”

Hopefully whatever platform they signed up for isn’t owned by the bloody Hittites

Welcome to Lemmy :), you’ll fit right in lmao

Nice specs, nice setup. You might want to add another rainbow sticker or two, just in case :p

Using an officially supported secondary app store and calling it a Play Integrity bypass seems like a bit of a stretch.

GOG Galaxy is like Steam but for GOG games, in case anyone else was wondering.
It likes chasing birds and dealing 2d6 necrotic damage
No they don’t “completely scan your phone”. They’re doing plenty of awful stuff though. Why rely on hearsay and “small hints” if you can be scared based on facts? Here’s a starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flock_Safety#Controversies
