Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I'm looking for ideas of things to do for a bereaved neighbor
7·5 days agoI can speak to that from a somewhat personal perspective because I lost my older brother a few years ago, which means I got to witness my mom losing a child.
I know that she would have greatly appreciated simple flowers later after his passing. She got a lot of flowers and stuff when he passed, which made her feel like he was very loved by his friends.
But then a year later, only a few people remembered. And I think that’s what hurt her the most after the obvious pain of losing her son. That people forgot.
So if you knew his son, you can write a card about how you still remember him and add flowers to that.
It’s usually not about the actual thing you give him but how it’s presented and the words that go with it.
P.S. you are a good person.
I believe that’s how some cats see themselves.
She is clearly not too afraid of water, and I can imagine it feels very warm sitting in that “boat.” Smart kitty.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever converted another “normie” to use a federated social media platform ?
1·7 days agoOf course I know her. She’s me.
PSA: Aloe vera can make cats sick, so can other plants. Please do the research and put your plants away or get the ones non-toxic to cats. But you all already know that.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Theoretically speaking, if one wanted to sail the seas while being not very tech savvy – is using a VPN (Mullvad) enough? I would never, of course… but theoretically?
2·7 days agoShe uses it just fine. They also say they block FaceTime, but we have used it without an issue. Russian government and their technology is not the best. Although who knows, they are getting better, so maybe they will finally succeed.

7·8 days agoI am not sure about the actual numbers, but what you describe absolutely happens, more often than people realize. These fucks go after vulnerable people.

6·8 days agoNo, like others said I might point out his behavior is disappointing, but never him.

10·8 days agoThank you for saying that. I have worked with MAPs (minor attracted people), and majority of them do not want to offend, and understand they can never act on their desires. They were actively seeking treatment and felt suicidal because of their attraction.

4·9 days agoThat’s neat! As an animal lover, I also love the mole in their logo. Not that the logo has anything to do with the quality of the service… but it is cute.

And the claws in the second panel kill me every time. So life-like.

4·9 days agoThanks! I am learning a ton today. I’m googling every term I don’t know. Feeling very “galaxy brain” right now.
Edit: I should specify I’m using Duck Duck Go instead of Google cause you all taught me that. So thanks again.

Maybe we could find some kind of compromi…
Who am I kidding, it’s always #2.

29·9 days agoI am not the best source for that because my mom avoids watching the government channels. But what I do know is they only report “positive” stuff about the war, like how Ukraine is being “liberated” and how Russia is valiantly fighting for its life and values. It’s sick. They never report on true casualties on either side and just say they only hit military targets.
When I lived back there in the 80s and 90s, we experienced a temporary reprieve from this kind of bullshit. For a short period of time, people felt free. The economy sucked, but it actually felt good to know you had a semblance of freedom of speech, comparatively speaking.
Now it’s back to fucking Stalin times. Like they say, all of Russian history can be summed up as “and then it got worse.”
If you want to learn more about Putin’s rise to power and how it was back then, I highly recommend The Man Without A Face by Masha Gessen. It was written in 2012, and it shows exactly who Putin is.
