It used to be a lot more correct for server-side than it is now, in the age of spinning disks. Circa 2006, Django requests were definitely usually dominated by database queries, and this was widely pointed out to people who complained about the speed of template formatting. That’s probably very rarely the case now.

Mainly that Forgejo has a lot of GET endpoints that are both expensive, and discoverable by crawling. Bots crawling Forgejo are a much bigger contributor to my homeserver’s overwhelming IO load than anything else on the server. Which is not to say that I wouldn’t also put mitigations on the web server side.

The Forgejo feature that would be most useful to me would be some kind of scraper mitigation. I may have missed something, but I am having to do mitigations at the level of the web server that is proxying it.

It’s not just banks, either. Employers and landlords might require you use specific apps on specific OSes. Really you’re locked in for anything where you have a choice between parties to contract with in a category, but you must contract with a party in that category, and all parties have aligned their policies due to regulation, cartelization, or simple groupthink.

My vague feeling is that consensus has steadily been creeping up that hyphenation is just a bad idea in general, along with justifying prose on any but very narrow columns like newsprint.
Hyphenation is necessary for full justification, and full justification is indispensable for any long-form body text. It’s actually hardest to do well in narrow columns. If it has fallen out of favor worth web designers, it’s more probably a matter of form following function – designers first abandoning it because web browsers never implemented it well, then deciding they must not have wanted it all along.

WebDAV is a standard storage interface like you want, but it’s pretty crufty and people don’t like using it. I’m pretty sure some Firefox extensions are able to sync their data or at least their settings through the Firefox Sync mechanism, but read/unread and starred article lists for a feed reader might be too much.
