You can’t actually cull that much. Sure, you can deprive wallhackers from seeing players across the entire map, but you can’t actually cull people who are about to be seen, or sound emitters behind walls. And both of those are plenty of advantage to make the game completely one-sided.

First they brought noise and air pollution, and increased power bills to backwater towns, but I did not complain, because I didn’t live in one of those towns, and my personal convinience outweighs the externalities.
The they came for the fruits of my intellectual labor, but there was no one left to speak out about it.
Those damn leopards, who would have thonk’d…

Because there is no rational way for anyone to read my original comment, and conclude that I was advocating that people “pretend” to want a job they don’t actually want. This is the point you keep missing.
Well, that’s the literal reading of your original comment, so I guess the rational thing is to assume nobody means what they say and read between lines?

“Your specific X/Y/Z grievance is actually a general anti-capitalist grievance”
Which is supremely unhelpful, vein just a “oh you’ve only just noticed there are promlems? well I, the better, more smart person, have known about problems for a while”. Instead of being condescending, why not talk about collective bargaining? Why not shout out some software-related unions?

You avoid function coloring. It’s a function parameter.
I have a problem with this wording, because function coloring is isomorphic to function parameters. It is fundamentally about how if you need thing X as a parameter at the bottom of the callstack, it will spread upwards. It doesn’t really matter whether the parameter is implicit or not. And it also goes for return types: if you introduce a Result at the bottom of your previously-infallible stack, it will start to spread upwards, unless you bite the bullet and unwrap it. Which will then unwind the stack so philisiphically it still does spread upwards, except implicitly and invisibly.

As a user, I utterly despise react as the reason why every indivifual browser tab these days takes 20 seconds to load and hydrate, and then eats up good half a gig of memory while providing absolutely no value over a plain server-side-rendered html page.

Oh. I expected to see a blank page, but on Firefox for android tapping that link shows a load bar but then stays on the same page.

If you’ve paid attention to the HuggingFace hacking scandal and to what’s going on in mathematics, we’re well past the “stochastic parrot”, and have entered a world in which a sufficient amount of raw capital and verifiable constraints can solve complex problems.
Unconvincing. An unsupervised swarm of stochastic parrots told to emulate hacking and piped directly to shell managed to eventually exploit something. Like, yes, it can do harm, but that has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence. The parrot may well be able to do your job, because you don’t really need to think to implement yet another CRUD service. You may take psychic damage from being forced realize that your job was one of the bullshit ones, but it would’ve still been one even without the parrot.
To put it in maximally edgy terms, there is a moral imperative to firebomb something, where datacenter ∈ something, but not for the specific purpose of slowing AI.

The root cause was that he had one resume / cover letter, and spammed the same thing to everyone. When the employer looked at that resume they saw that he wanted a job, he didn’t want this job.
In contrast, I read the job posting, and reworked my resume for every single posting. I removed things which weren’t relevant. I used words from the posting in my resume. I tried to send a message of OMG, my entire life I’ve been working towards getting this job!
Jobs one genuinely wants are extremely rare, and tailoring a CV and a cover letter to pretend otherwise is both an act of self-harm and a lie.

But the LLMs aren’t dong the biology for them, producing barely comprehensible yes/no proofs that do not lead to building of new theories.
