  • Yeah, that’s what hold agents back the most right now

You can ask them to take notes into a file, but that solution come with a lot of drawbacks:

    • Not everything is in the notes, so a whole lot of context is lost every time you restart the session,
    • The note they write themselves are usually pretty poor so the new session often miss the point on a lot of things.
    • When a session use a bad pattern for noting things, the follow up session keep using it to “keep the convention”, so error and bad habit accumulate.
    • As the file grow, each new session context window start more and more full, which mean less space to work. 200K tokens is really small. Pass 100K smaller models just start suffering context rot anyway, and larger model start losing the plot as they compact. And when you use a 1M context window you start raking up a huge bill.

So you end up repeating yourself, again and again, until you get completely mad.

  • I had a large answer written, but Joel Spolsky had already a better answer to a similar kind of statement 26 years ago:

Jakob Nielsen says that Flash is “99% bad.” I have to agree. Flash always reduces usability.

On the other hand, every time I read Jakob Nielsen, I get this feeling that he really doesn’t appreciate that usability is not the most important thing on earth. Sure, usability is important (I wrote a whole book about it). But it is simply not everyone’s number one priority, nor should it be. You get the feeling that if Mr Nielsen designed a singles bar, it would be well lit, clean, with giant menus printed in Arial 14 point, and you’d never have to wait to get a drink. But nobody would go there, they would all be at Coyote Ugly Saloon pouring beer on each other.

The only rule, if you ask me: if it is your blog, you write for you. Do what you like.
