1·8 days agoJesus H Christ, this is a new, innovative language by the guy who created the Lobster language (which pioneered compile-time refcounting), and six people have flagged it as spam?
This behavior is rage-inducing. If something was created with AI, suggest the ‘vibecoding’ tag if you must. Maliciously flagging as spam because you don’t like AI is antisocial. Stop doing it.

1·14 days agoLet me again plug Fork, a really great Git client for macOS and Windows. It’s not open source, and it’s not free ($50), but it’s worth every penny. It makes stashes very easy and intuitive — they even show up in the history view, as though they were a 1-commit branch.

1·15 days agoIt’s not a filename suffix in the sense of an extension, it’s the part of the name before the extension. But the IMO kludgy part is that this doesn’t identify the language of the file but what build target it should be part of, I.e. the main executable or the tests. There are some other magic naming conventions that apply to Cgo IIRC.
The nasty part shown here is that you can fake the name so it looks like it isn’t part of the main target even though it is. That’s kind of the reverse of normal: you can make a file that looks like it ends in “.py” but doesn’t, but as far as I know you can’t make one that doesn’t look like it but really does.

1·15 days agoI blame Go’s unfortunate penchant for basing behavior on naming schemes (like “lowercase means private”.)

With all due respect, that’s pure BS. While the implementation was produced by AI, the programming language was very much a human invention. Saying “Oh, it’s a link to a repo so it’s really all about the code” is just sophistry. The README and tutorial docs are very interesting — honestly this is the weirdest new language I’ve seen in years, and while I’m not sure I’d enjoy writing code in it, the ideas are fascinating.
The only way you can claim this is not valuable content, even by lobsters rules, is by putting your hands over your eyes and refusing to read the content of the page. If you’re going to those lengths, just take the next step and skip it completely without fucking things up for people who do care.
