1·27 days agoI just got my diglot translation alignment tool working, one of the first books I aligned was Записки из мертвого дома with Roger Cockrell’s translation.
That looks very cool. Does it make interlinear editions for specific languages? Or is the goal to have it work with any pairs?
Relatedly, I would love to learn Russian, and I really should make the time.

1·27 days ago(It’s a long weekend for me—I’m a teacher and Monday is a school holiday where I live.)
- Rent a car to go see fall leaves, eat New Haven pizza, and buy and eat lots of apple cider doughnuts.
- Read more of Dostoevsky’s Notes from a Dead House, his prison memoir novel.
- A little bit of programming: I’m trying to finish a Go library that generates Apple’s more typeable passwords.

1·1 month agoI sometimes use
catas a quick editor:cat > filename.txt # Type five or ten lines and then Ctrl-D # You can also add a few lines to an existing text. # cat >> filename.txtFor a bunch of other useful ways to use
catsee also Useful use of cat(1). I posted a link here for that story as well. Maybe the stories should be merged?

I see how having both
fooandbarcall a private helper improves the public API. But I immediately wondered why not have different private helpers, frobnicateandtransmogrify. (To put this another way:helper(.frobnicate)andhelper(.transmogrify)struck me as swapping the original flag boolean for a flag enum.) I guess it all depends on how much common codefrobnicateandtransmogrifywould have, though perhaps even then, the two private helpers could both call another private helper for the overlap. (I’m probably focusing too much on the details of the example, which is not fully fleshed out.)score 1 · canonical
