127·4 days agoSee also the privacy-invading aggressiveness of most platforms, and the political ads and propaganda inundating people’s feeds. If social media had just remained a way to keep in touch with friends and post pictures, it would probably have remained popular.

5·9 days agoIt’s interesting to watch these clips and compare just how much better John Oliver’s acting is than the recurring actress in the hospital bed.
Soap Operas are a great training grounds for hungry actors. I have to wonder how she continues to keep this job if that’s the best performance she can offer. It’s not like soaps are hesitant to recast or write off characters.

Television@piefed.social•Netflix Viewers Are Abandoning Shows After One SeasonEnglish
13·11 days agoIf Netflix leadership was smart, they would encourage shows to write each season as self contained. That way the show could live on after cancellation. As it is, there is a ton of content on the channel that people will not start watching because they know it doesn’t end properly.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Music streaming services should introduce tags as an alternative to playlistsEnglish
14·11 days agoPandora might already have similar infrastructure in place, if it’s still used. It’s just not exposed to the public. Once upon a time, actual human beings used to import CDs into the service and tag the songs with different descriptors. This was to help the recommendation engine build playlists around similar music. You could see some of these tags when you chose “why this song” during playback.
One thing I wish the recommendation engines took into account was the record producer. Usually when you find a song/artist you like — you’ll find similar music by looking at other albums the same producer was involved in.

3·21 days agoWatching the original Bob Newhart show. The casting is just stellar. It’s fun to see how the sets and opening credits change each season. The 70s fashion is a hoot. I’d say season 2 is the strongest so far.

Interesting review on Pajiba. As I suspected it’s not very realistic, but possibly more so than the 1970s version.
