It was probably initially developed using a different VCS (e.g., svn), and when git became feature-complete that “svn” history was imported into git.

I think I haven’t played a single EA title in a decade, will continue to do so.
It’s not fake per se, it’s just vibe-coded and will be abandoned by the “authors” in 6 months when they realize nobody jumps to adopt their language.
