All I know is Jeffries and Schumer ain’t it, until the Dems replace them everything is still in jeopardy.

Jeffries is literally buddies with Kushner, a leading AIPAC donation taker, and also beholden to weird Nazi tech bro Peter Thiel, throw the whole dude away.

I did a google search. Then followed it up with Kagi until I ran out of scroll.

Every headline minus a couple fringe items, repeats that Jeffries will be the next speaker.

      Almost all of them.

      We are so fucked.

Not saying that is not a foregone conclusion but your method is flawed here.

Every search and headline today would be parroting what he said yesterday. There literally has not been any time for anyone to say differently in public (even if asked, most would not voice an opinion on election day)

If I search today, like you did, looking for the orange pedophile’s response to the midterm election, it would seem he will respect it and allow the transfer of power… however, he may change his syphilitic mind and throw another insurrection tomorrow

There has been time. There’s one UK opinion piece on infighting between Dems.

There’s one Indian news site that brought up the change.org petition to not have Jeffries.

There’s an ex Bernie campaigner site that has a ā€œProgress stops with Jeffriesā€ headline.

That’s it. But if they’ve had time, everyone has had time. They’re choosing to rally behind Jeffries. But that’s corporate media working their damnedest after the fact, because he’s their dam on the tsunami. So, full headline support.

Change.org is typically a point of interest. Note how the 450k signatures overnight are ignored by American media.

New republic is a fringe publication only Redditors (and their Lemmy defectors) read.

This is one of the main points of news that hold info the middle of the bell curve block of the public do not consume.

Meaning, for the purposes we are discussing now, it may as well not exist.

That’s it. But if they’ve had time, everyone has had time.

You mean the 3 examples you found from people either not in the USA at all or one standalone campaigner? yes, how is it that the people running for a historic election are not already working and posting publicly about this specific thing?!

Change.org is typically a point of interest. Note how the 450k signatures overnight are ignored by American media.

The petition has 49K not 450K; but I think it’s typical to be ignored because I can sign it and I am Canadian… there is almost no legitimacy to these online petitions

PS: turns out there are, at least 2, petitions against Jeffries.

The one you point out with 450K signatures is 2 months old (so not overnight)

The one I found, is from yesterday, and has 49K so far

May I suggest that, if you are posting some backing evidence, post directly to it, not to an open repository

There was a good video put out by AOC last night about how the speaker is voted for, based on that I think the answer is finding out who the caucus leaders are and getting their attention, because the voting basically comes down to all of the cliques of Congress/Senate getting together to decide who is speaker/Majority Leader, so we need to get in the ear of the leaders of those political cliques within the Democratic party, because based on AOCs responses, the cliques have the power and the smaller cliques and independents are on the outside looking in.

They have such a commanding majority that they could leave 40+ members out. If the progressives have any guts they would hold their vote hostage to reconsider other choices. It would look pretty bad if there was a wave and then a fresh speaker battle so it might motivate them to reconsider.

I’ve seen a few headlines of congresspeople and congresspeople-elects saying basically that they want to exercise caution and hold some more discussions about who to nominate for the leadership roles.

It’s basically a diplomatic way of saying they’d rather support someone else. Just need to build some consensus on who.

I also like AOC a lot. I’d be super happy to see her as Madam Speaker, if enough House Dems can get behind her.

I think she has her own kind of charisma, but she seems to self-censor sometimes because earlier in her career she was targeted with a lot of republican hate. She was one of the first progressives to break ground in Congress. She’s a strong, independent Latina woman. In short, she’s everything republicans fear.

So there was a lot of red scare BS thrown at her, not to mention the tons of misogyny that tends to follow any woman who’s successful in politics. She’s also had to make waves even in her own party just to be heard. Some centrist Dems viewed her as disruptive. So she doesn’t seem as outspoken on the House floor as she once was, which I view as a strategic conservation of energy. She still does a lot of great work on her committees, and that’s probably where you’ve seen her shine on CSPAN (a great resource, more people should watch it).

She also does a lot of legwork behind the scenes reviewing policy, organizing the progressive momentum, listening to her constituents, and actually fighting for their needs. She still has a lot of energy, but she directs it where it’s appreciated now. Progressive rallies, reaching out to the younger generation of voters on social media, educating anyone who will listen, etc.

In short I think she’s a really great politician, and a great person in general. We might need a few more electoral cycles before we have enough progressive Dems in the House to support her for Speakership though. And by then I hope she primaries Schumer anyway.

Change.org petitions aren’t worth getting on our enemies radar for, they don’t change anything, and even the media stopped paying attention to them, and that was the main thing they were worth.

Calling reps is better, but my reps are MAGA dirtbags, and most public leaders don’t care about folks outside of their constituency calling them outside of the increases in call volume, Schumer and Jeffries know that we think they’re shit, they’re paid by AIPAC and others to not care, people should be calling the caucus leaderships, because some of them aren’t compromised yet, and they’re the ones voting for Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader.

Ultimately we have to make noise while not having anymore platforms of our own, having government/politicians we don’t trust, and journalists who are derelict in their duties. We still have an uphill battle to keep fighting.

Props for that, I appreciate it. I know how easy it is to give in to despair and assume nothing good will come of this sort of thing, because historically it’s been rare. But the important thing to remember is that MAGA and the corrupt corporate democrats want you to feel like that because it makes their jobs so much easier. Keeping the hope is a direct stand against them, so it’s worth it for that reason alone. But I’ve found that once you start to vocalize it, and see others vocalize it, it makes it easier to actually believe that things can get better. Especially after the midterms we just had.

I also apologize for coming at you so strong. I’ve been seeing so many people trying to break the hope, and I’ve been trying to push back against it, and it’s just exhausting and frustrating šŸ˜…

So look, I’m ambivalent right now.

Blues are incoming. This is better as at least things will stop getting actively, aggressively worse since Reds won’t have full free reign. I will take what victories I can right now.

However, your entire point remains entirely undisturbed. I don’t believe they will actually do much. What keeps me ambivalent versus bitter is that nothing has had a chance to happen yet. They haven’t been sworn in, nothing but words have been thrown around yet. Talk all you want, I’ll believe it when I see it.

People didn’t believe AOC was gonna be anything. Now I’m not glazing her, but those same people also predicted she would fail immediately. All I said was she has to make it through her first term before we can really take a measure of the girl, and look where we are now. Those folks were wrong and she is a voice that people have no choice but to reckon with one way or another as she has a following and sway within it. Like her or not, those are facts.

There is a glimmer here, and I think what we can expect from the voting public of this generation is the genuine desire for not the same old shit. That’s why we got Trump in the first place; he wasn’t the same old fart who made empty promises. He came in with passion and common speech rather than boilerplate PC phrases and promised to change the status quo. Monkey’s Paw activated on that one for those who voted Trump, but I am seeing that in the current vote as well.

Again, I’ve got no crystal ball to see how it will turn out, but the hope I once had has somehow limped its way out of the rubble of this administration. Doesn’t mean it’ll get very far, it just isn’t dead yet, y’know?

          You’re right.

There were people in 24 who voted for both Trump and AOC. It had nothing to do with their ā€œfactionā€ and everything to do with being authentic, not DC cronies (the inner cliques AOC discussed), and not the same old bullshit. Destruction incarnate and fraud and treason in Trumps case but certainly not the same old bullshit.
