1·3 days agoXSLT suffered its worst defeat when it became clear that XHTML was not going to be the future of web development.
This is a popular take, but I don’t understand it. XHTML is already directly interpretable by the browser. XSLT is for transforming things that are not (such as atom feeds) into HTML, etc.
Of course XSLT still continues to have a thriving life outside of web browsers also, but that’s perhaps a separate consideration.

1·6 days agoThis kind of device is essentially trying to replace cassette players. The kids want to listen to music or an audiobook but can’t read and the parents don’t want to give them a screen. This has the same kind of interface as a cassette player: plonk this in that slot and hit play. If you want the other story plonk the other thing in.

0·14 days agoMisses the main thing: slow languages don’t exist. Languages aren’t slow. Slow implementations exist, and can be replaced over time by faster implementations.

1·19 days agoThis is maybe a problem and maybe we should be pruning the invite tree more aggressively for people who invite strangers.

1·26 days agoI have this problem also. So far my approach is to transform tool outputs into something markdownish and then use mkdocs on it all. But I definitely ha e some custom scripts and transforms as a result

1·28 days agoSure, I don’t think anyone needs to make over $50k a year. But that doesn’t mean they’re overcompensated. I had a coworker once who through one month of work netted the company over a million a year forever. He was woefully undercompensated relative to his value to the company at 200k

1·28 days agoSure, but while it would be silly to design a machine to paint murals of its own invention, a machine to efficiently paint a wall correctly would be awesome.

Several million rows is pretty small. And I’m not sure why the big text in each row was a problem at this size either?
