There it is.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_System_of_Units#Prefixes to save you some future posting.
My fact is still accurate. You commented like I was wrong.
I am pretty sure they are just jokingly trying to blow your mind with a list of other measurements.
It just looks like they googled system of units and expected it to be the same as what I am talking about.
It is the same as what you are talking about. Giga and Peta are listed prefixes that are 1,000,000 apart in the chart.
Oh yes. 1 PB is 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes. 1,125,899,906,842,620 specifically. I didn’t click link. He responded like I was wrong.
He responded like you were posting unit definition and jokingly being worried you’d post all of them, e.g. TIL 1 kilometer is 1000 meters.
Terrible joke if so lol. That would be insane to list all of them.
1 PB is 10^15 B.
1 PiB is 2^50 B = 1024^5 B= 1,125,899,906,842,620 BThat is what I just commented lol.
1 Petabyte (PB) is 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes while 1 Pebibyte (PiB) is 1,125,899,906,842,624 bytes. They are not the same. These are two different systems, respectively: metric (10^n) and binary (2^n).
There. Since people want to include everything.

i get your reaction and i’m sad to see that posts on lemmy get smug and nasty as with most of the internet :/
but tbt i was also about to post this link because i presume that you come from a country that doesn’t use metric units where it is common to work with mili/[ ]/kilo/mega/giga/… (each having a thousand more than the former) for different things like weight, power, you name it so that fact, as true as it is, appears to be common knowledge for people who grew up with it and we should be more positive about sharing knowledge as a community. in any case, i hope you still have a lovely day despite some of the comments/votes.
I appreciate your response.
Oh boy, let me tell you about the metric system!
You just learned that 1000 times 1000 is a million?
That’s mildly concerning.
The downvotes are cruel and smug.
It’s exactly like Reddit behaviour.
Of course it is, it’s the same voting-in-a-filter-bubble-system in here.
I state a simple fact and people spaz out.
For those downvoting here an adjacent TIL: million:
mille = thousant
ion = great, big
(i don’t actually know the real english or latin words, and don’t care enough to fact check them) so one million is a big thousand! And the abbriviation is not called mil (that would be thousand) but mio, thats a million. colloquially mil might still mean million, it got lost in translation and those who know are the minority.
…but only yesterday I learned to count from 1 to 3
fuck yea bro!
What would 1024 petrabytes be called? 🤔
Is that not an exabyte?
Yes!
You’d probably getting angry calls from Petra because you took her bytes!
Too expensive for my blood.
You would have to buy a collection of multiple high-capacity drives for 1024 PB’s. The cost for 1PB drive alone would be around $50,000 or more. Especially for an SSD. But the numbers might be all over the place.
Shit. I’m going to need a bigger NAS.
We all deserve a bigger NAS…
Nahhh im good, for now.
I was surprised how fast 5TB’s gets used up…
Well i added 16 at the beginning of the year…
What would 1024 petrabytes be called? 🤔
a good start
Exabyte! Damn son. 1024 Petabytes is 1,073,741,824 Gigabytes.
No. An exbibyte is 1024 pebibytes. An exabyte is 1000 petabytes.
An exbibyte is 1,073,741,824 gibibytes. An exabyte is 1,000,000,000 gigabytes.
These are different units.
You people are fucking nuts. One thousand twenty-four petabytes (1024) is called an exabyte (EB).
Data Scale Order:
• Kilobyte (KB): 1,000 bytes.
• Megabyte (MB): 1,000 kilobytes.
• Gigabyte (GB): 1,000 megabytes (decimal) or 1,024 megabytes (binary).
• Terabyte (TB): 1,000 or 1,024 gigabytes
• Terabyte (TB): 1,024 gigabytes
• Petabyte (PB): 1,024 terabytes
• Exabyte (EB): 1,024 petabytes (about one quintillion bytes)
• Zettabyte (ZB): 1,024 exabytes
And a pedo-bite is what happens a Republican eats lunch.
