Phorge is great; we’ve been using it (and Phabricator before it) at DeviantArt for so long, that it’s hard to tell any more whether our process evolved around Phab/Phorge or it just happened to be a natural fit.
Seeing that Wikimedia use Phab, it makes sense how we’ve had at least two (three?) devs leave DA to join Wikimedia over the years.

I’ve heard of this as the exonerative voice before: tends to get used a lot when talking about police action, in that someone “ends up injured after being in an area where police were also present” while not mentioning that police caused the injury.
You’re correct that it’s not strictly the passive voice, it’s further down the road than passive.

I note that none of the “reasons to dislike” relate to the real, documented cognitive atrophy seen by consistent users of the models as they surrender more of their thought processes and self-confidence to the machine.
Perhaps because the author doesn’t have a succinct refutation for that?

Would agree that learning React in this day and age is throwing away time that would be better used elsewhere. However, if you already know React there’s likely to be contract work out there for you forevermore; I got started in PHP contracting in Ages Past when that was everywhere, and I still come across the occasional posting that needs someone who knows the old magic.
In that sense, React/JSX is likely to join PHP and Cobol in the list of “tech that’ll pay you enough to come out of retirement for 3 months”.

I love these reminders of the whimsy and humanity behind the technologies of the web: IP over Avian Carrier, Hypertext Coffeepot Control, and the like. In this age of agents “talking” to agents, we shouldn’t forget that the Internet was built for the use and benefit of people, and these technologies were built by people, with all the nerd humour that entails.

Very interesting that you got an email back; also quite intrigued by the message of “be thankful you get a site at example.com at all, we’re not obliged to put one up”.
I mean sure, but it still feels like the effect they were going for could’ve been achieved in a more accessible manner.

Hoping to get some time to work on my JS-less pan and zoom of the OpenStreetMap tileset. Already worked out how the tiles are addressed, so in theory the Hard Thinking’s done.
