The Apache 2.0 license is the gold standard for programming languages and compilers, because it provides great flexibility to be used in all sorts of applications. The LLVM extensions to the license further expand those freedoms for building and distributing binaries compiled from Mojo. We want you to be able to adopt and use Mojo in as many applications as you can imagine.
Now that 1.0 has been released and it’s open source. I’m going to start using it in my commercial projects instead of python. I played with earlier versions but couldn’t do serious work in it until I knew there was some stability.
is it ready for that? I thought I’d heard that 1.0 was a bit too much marketing and not enough “it’s actually done”. but if I’m wrong I’d like you to play with it myself.
They have said that they will keep making changes in an additive way, but that the foundation should be ready for building on. IMO this is more like a Python 1.0, and not like a Go/Rust/Zig 1.0. But only time will tell how well they manage versions.
