(a) Yes, but I’d still much rather my dividend money went to the US Govt than the Chinese Govt, even given everything that’s been happening for the past few years.
(b) Once again “Communist” China does capitalism better than the USA ;)
I hope this comment is taken as genuine not as being a “tankie”:
As someone who has much of his life connected to China, I personally think they do a lot of good and some really bad. That said, I cannot think of any regard that the US government is better to its people than China, frankly. I know first hand that the CCP has pulled a billion people out of poverty that no one in the west has had to know. I know people that had to eat bark. In three generations they have gone from utterly poor to quite advanced. Now they own their own home, car, etc.

I also think your point on Communism is out of touch. That comment reads similarly to biblical scriptural literalism—the bible says this but Christians don’t do this so there must be no real Christians. I don’t think its up to the rando to decide whether a Communist country is Communist or not. These countries have had to make decisions on how to run themselves that would better the economy for their people, and it’s worked. Deng did open up the country with his version revisionism to boost the economy, as every lasting Communist country has done. I do not think this action has somehow proved China wrong.
In day to day life, I’ve witnessed government employees going above and beyond to help me or other citizens more than I’ve received in the US. I know there is bad on both sides but frankly got to say it’s pleasant.
I won’t say sorry for, but this is a rant based on a common American reaction to position their praise of the US gov over the CCP when no one in their right mind can think such praises even before recently. To me, this says I know nothing of China but what the scary US media tells me. I’m not saying giving money to the CCP is something I would do at all, I’m simply responding to this comment. I think it’s ridiculous that I feel the need to comment that I can of course list countless critiques of the CCP as if that somehow credits my comment.

Undeniably, from an economic perspective. I don’t think there’s ever been a climb out of poverty as rapid as China’s?
The point I was making by quoting “Communism”, though, is that I believe they were successful only by abandoning Communist principles and practices. They kept the name and little else.
Ah, I’m out of date. It used to be 100% state owned; now the number is down to 9%.
Still netted them around USD 20 million last time dividends were paid, in 2022. Larger than either Framework or Dell’s donations to DHH!

9% would make them less state-owned than Intel :P
