This is something the Gleam team and I have wanted in the LSP specification for a long time, but unfortunately there has been no progress since it was first proposed 6 years ago. I hope this new attention from Google is enough for Microsoft to include this.

I don’t use Go, but it would be so cool to see these things in other languages! I just hope editors (I use Helix) support this once it’s finalized. I wonder how much work it would be to add support.

If it gets included in the spec then Helix and other editors will support it. The LSP maintainers have not been in favour of this functionality for the last 6 years, but this recent proposal from Google seems like it may change that.
