If this kind of community schism happened 20 years ago, 5 “AI free” lobsters forks would already have been created with their own growing communities figuring out where and how to draw the lines. That’s one of the core features of the internet that used to be taken advantage of much more frequently. I have a feeling the rise of social media and the oppressive nature of big tech platforms has had an effect on user agency.
I like the direction the mods are taking here. But I’m also open to exploring other alternatives. If anyone does create their own link sharing community please link it below.
It takes more than 12 hours to spin up a high-quality fork site. If such a site were made, with high quality moderation like we’ve come to enjoy from pushcx and co, I’d go there immediately.

Especially given that Lobsters threads automatically get locked after a few months, I note that such a hypothetical alternative to Lobsters seems fitting to add to the list of sister and cousin sites that is linked from the about page.
Given that that page lists multiple sites that apparently took the opposite stance from Lobsters on the conscionability of a previous popular, controversial technology (cryptocurrency), I have some hope that alternatives to Lobsters resulting from the current issue also would be accepted on that page.
