I really want to try modern smalltalk at some point but I am also kinda confused what would be the best niche it could fit because doing the next AoC or Ray Tracing in a Weekend (what I used to do) in pharo seems like a poor fit to me.
What are some of your favourite projects using pharo (or cuis, or any other modern smalltalk system)?

It’s been many, many years since I touched Smalltalk myself but was a nice environment to develop in. I’d say pick a project idea that interests you that needs a GUI and with the FFI most libraries can be accessible. The last time I saw it was at an investment bank where a team had used Cincom for a mix of headless processes and a user-facing GUI for handling exceptional conditions (I was not involved, they were consuming services and an API I owned). There might still be pockets of it out there.

Unless I’m mistaken the default vm is still single threaded right?
Update : here’s a project to build a multi threaded vm https://github.com/blakemcbride/Smalltalk-2026/blob/main/doc/PLAN-TO-PHARO.md
